Released in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Godzilla vs. Kong still managed to be a crossover hit, thanks to a more than fine box office response (considering the number of closed theatres) and a well-received HBO Max release.

Even prior to release, the film’s clout amongst fans and even non-fans was significantly higher than that of Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. While those films also had meme reactions from viewers, Godzilla vs. Kong has even more comedic gold to mine.

10 Kong’s Just Standing Here

@WidgeWemnen thinks Kong was just minding his own business.

Apex, the nefarious company behind Godzilla’s wild attacks, is the one who chained him down to this Navy barge. Then, out of nowhere, dorsal fins breach the water, all while towing a bisected ship. But the bisected ship goes down, then Godzilla comes up.

9 The Movie Has A … Fast Pace

Godzilla vs Kong basically runs on this pic.twitter.com/RLiaxduO3I

@Goji_Saurus thinks that Godzilla vs. Kong’s narrative logic doesn’t always make sense, leaving questions and plot holes. To be fair, the movie jumps from plot point to plot point with reckless abandon. Though, unlike Godzilla: King of the Monsters, here, it works.

Still, this Twitter user would have liked some clarification on simple things such as character motivation. Perhaps this is something director Adam Wingard can fix when he comes back for the next Monsterverse installment.

@MeAloneInMyMind feels that, while the best action scenes in Godzilla vs. Kong are terrific, they left a ton of property damage. Insurance companies are looking at every atomic-breath-decimated building as a financial nightmare.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the film’s set pieces that it’s easy to forget the destruction, carnage, and loss of life on display. Were the Hong Kong scene (arguably the best action scene in a Monsterverse film) to take place in real life, it’s doubtful that people would be so caught up in the excitement.

7 Human Characters?

@furmeen is under the impression that, when a human actually is on the screen in the movie, it’s not all that interesting. The Monsterverse is known for: A) Not having many decent human characters and B) Doing away with the characters who have potential (Godzilla and Bryan Cranston).

While Godzilla vs. Kong has the best group of characters of the four-installment series, the Twitter user has a point.

6 Martha Or Mothra

Godzilla Vs Kong:Dawn Of Justice #GodzillaVsKong pic.twitter.com/hbjtPO8CBj

@ImranRaja0603 believes Godzilla vs. Kong and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may have a hidden similarity. In the middle of their Hong Kong battle, Godzilla presses down on Kong’s chest. He’s won, and he knows it. But Kong is more than he appears, and when Godzilla gives a long, domineering roar, Kong returns the favor.

While audiences don’t know what these two were saying, this Twitter user’s Godzilla vs. Kong fan theory puts Kong in Superman’s place and Godzilla in Batman’s place during the infamous Martha scene. Except, here, it would be the beloved Mothra who gets an impassioned shoutout.

5 We’re Good

Even with all the carnage, @NuskiiJax believes that Kong and his biggest enemy, Godzilla, made true peace by the film’s end. Once Mechagodzilla comes into the picture, the two titular monsters must make bygones be just that and team up.

In a spectacular finale, the titans take the mechanical monstrosity down a peg or two. Had they not had each other’s back, they could very well be dead. Perhaps that will have to wait for the next adversary.

4 Godzilla Vs. King Toretto

With F9 on the horizon, @killmeslime wants to see another team-up. Though this time it wouldn’t be Godzilla vs. King Kong, it would be Godzilla vs. Dom Toretto and his team of intermittent outlaws.

Specifically, the Twitter user wants Dom Toretto to ascend Godzilla’s scaly back in a sportscar. It wouldn’t be the wildest thing to happen in the Monsterverse, nor the Fast & Furious franchise.

3 They Know Why They’re There

#GodzillaVsKong #Godzilla Critics : X reasons you should not watch the new Godzilla Vs Kong movie. Audience: pic.twitter.com/wFLUKvlE6l

@Timeloop_stuck knows why they want to see the film, and they don’t care what the critics have to say. For one, Godzilla vs. Kong was actually quite well-reviewed. However, even with the positive reviews, the critical consensus was that the movie delivered action and little else.

But, it really delivered the action. It seems like this Twitter user, and many like them, got exactly what they paid for.

2 Round One Went Godzilla

@EmmaArrGus felt everyone’s heartbreak when Godzilla handily won round one. After breaking through the murky ocean depths, Godzilla thrusts himself across the Navy barge and gives Kong a beatdown.

Kong gets his licks in too, and Godzilla falls back off the barge. However, the water turns bright blue, and his atomic breath vaporizes the vessel. This moment was probably when the Twitter user started getting worried for their favored opponent.

1 Mac’s Tactic

On the subject of who I want to win in Godzilla vs Kong pic.twitter.com/7Ja7TRKWbu

@SpaceTree88 believes that Ronald MacDonald of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has the right idea. Both sides have something to offer him, so the victor doesn’t truly matter.

Hopefully, unlike Mac, they didn’t attempt to make a blood pact with each side while simultaneously telling that side he’s playing both sides. Considering, in the movie, both monsters seem fairly matched, playing both sides isn’t the worst idea.
