The 15 Best Sketch Comedy Series Ever (That Arent Saturday Night Live)

When you think sketch comedy show, the first series that probably comes to mind is Saturday Night Live (SNL). And while that show has become the longest-running sketch comedy series on television, preparing for its 47th season, and has spawned countless movies based on characters from the show, it isn’t the be all, end all of sketch comedy. And it arguably isn’t the best sketch comedy series that has been on television either.

Since the ’50s, sketch comedy shows have encouraged families to gather together around the television, kids to secretly stay up late to watch sketches that aren’t age appropriate, and friends to chat around the watercooler at work about that hilarious episode last night. So besides Saturday Night Live, which have been the best sketch comedy series so far?

15 Mad TV (1995-2009, one-season revival in 2016)

Mad TV was so good, and spawned so many notable characters, that it was brought back for a special single-season revival in 2016, more than 20 years after it first went on the air. The show, which counted huge stars like Artie Lange, Alex Borstein, Bobby Lee, Ike Barinholtz, Jordan Peele, and Keegan-Michael Key, among its diverse and hilarious cast, was hilariously non-politically correct, but always relevant.

Some of the most popular characters from the show included Ms. Swann, Bunifa Latifah Halifah Sharifah Jackson, Lorraine Swanson, and Stewart Larkin, all of whom are still referenced to this day.

Among the top talents was Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier, and the show created such iconic characters like Homey the Clown and Men on Film that it remains relevant and hilarious today, even though some of the skits admittedly haven’t aged well.
