Like season 32 winners Will & James, a strong team dynamic is essential to doing well and dominating the competition in The Amazing Race. In the race, teams are tasked with figuring out clues, overcoming detours, and tackling roadblocks. However, there are many teams that overcame these iconic obstacles while also having personalities that clashed.

Many of these dysfunctional teams made a memorable impression on viewers by screaming at each other and, on occasion, getting into physical disputes. Despite these teams having a tough time getting along, they also proved that they could overcome their differences and work together when they needed to.

10 Brooke & Scott (Season 29)

Fans remember Brooke & Scott as the team that bickered the most during the entire season. They were paired up after an infamous season twist where 22 strangers were teamed up for a chance to win the cash prize. Brooke proved to have an aggressive approach to the competition right away, and even threw a tantrum during a roadblock close to the finish line. The team’s personalities were opposite and clashed during the course of the race.

Despite arguing during every leg of the race, Brooke & Scott proved to be fierce competitors early on. The team pushed each other to complete the physical challenges, even though many fans believe that the team heavily relied on their other competitors. Brooke & Scott were able to push through their differences, solidify their win in the season, and still remain close friends to this day.

9 Colin & Christie (Season 5 & 31)

Colin & Christie proved to be another highly dysfunctional team. Colin had an intense personality and would verbally attack Christie during multiple legs of the race. Colin was also almost arrested in Tanzania over a massive temper tantrum and went to throw another tantrum while the team was in the Philippines.

Even though the team had many blowout moments in season 5 that shocked viewers, the team also competed at a high level. During season 5, they set a new record for the team with most legs won in a season. The pair also made a drastic comeback in season 31 where they hardly had any drama between them and ultimately took home the win.

8 Tara & Wil (Season 2)

Tara & Wil made a name for themselves among viewers by being the original fighting couple team on The Amazing Race. The team consistently belittled each other with awful remarks and overall disrespect for each other. Tara & Wil also caused drama with the other teams, solidifying their stance as a problematic team. Tara also began flirting with Alex, a member of the team’s main competition, early on despite Wil’s complaints.

Even though Tara & Wil fought with each other throughout the whole season, they also competed fiercely. The team would push through their disagreements and would often prove to have what it took in order to win the season. However, they finished just behind Alex & Chris, solidifying their spot in second place.

7 The Weaver Family (Season 8)

The Weaver family is another team that fans remember being highly dysfunctional. The team seemed to operate well with each other, but because they distanced themselves from the other teams, they immediately caused a lot of friction in the season. The Weavers often bullied other contestants in order to make themselves seem better, ultimately causing the team to be Yielded twice in the race.

Even though the Weaver family bullied the other teams, they also proved that they were strong competitors. The family competed on The Amazing Race after a tragedy in their family and pushed themselves to work through their trauma in order to complete each leg of the race. The team also had three team members under the age of 20, making their team memorable for many reasons.

6 Flo & Zach (Season 3)

Flo & Zach surprised viewers early on with their dysfunction. Flo proved to be the bigger villain on the team and would constantly complain and yell about Zach’s performance. Flo also began flirting with Drew, and a competitor on another team, in the second half of the season which caused some distance in the team.

Despite their bickering, Flo & Zach proved to be a powerful team. They worked through their differences and Flo worked to scheme against the other teams in order to solidify their place in the final leg. Flo & Zach may have spent the majority of the season disagreeing, but they ultimately overcame their differences and were victorious.

5 Brenden & Rachel (Season 20 & 24)

This couple made a poor impression with viewers early on for their emotional breakdowns and explosive confrontations, something that made them infamous on Big Brother. Brenden & Rachel got into multiple disagreements with Art & JJ and Vanessa & Ralph, and made cruel comments at the other competitors’ expense.

Even though Brenden & Rachel fought throughout the season, they also proved to be fierce competitors. The team completed each leg of the race strongly and proved to have cutthroat tactics that helped them make it to 3rd place in both seasons they competed in.

4 Freddy & Kendra (Season 6)

Freddy & Kendra seemed to get along fairly well during their season, but their dysfunctional approach to their competitors and the locals from the various locations made them unlikable by fans early on. Kendra made multiple racially insensitive comments during the many legs of the race and Freddy threatened their competitors on multiple occasions.

Despite this team having some controversial moments, they worked tirelessly for their win in the race. The team worked extremely well together and made a strong alliance with Hayden & Aaron. This team’s ability to work well together and overcome each leg made them the winners of season 6, despite fans believing they are one of the least deserving winners.

3 Vanessa & Ralph (Season 20)

Vanessa & Ralph were dysfunctional as soon as the race began. They spent the majority of their time in the race bickering with each other, which caused them to not win any legs of the race during the season. The team also feuded with the other teams, especially Brenden & Rachel, and Vanessa showed her mean side by consistently fighting with Rachel any chance she could.

Vanessa & Ralph may have been a dysfunctional couple, but they proved that they were also strong competitors. The team ended up in the back of the pack often, but their ability to pull back together is what ultimately saved them from elimination multiple times.

2 Dana & Matt (Season 28)

Dana & Matt suffered from communication issues early on in The Amazing Race. Dana had a controlling nature and would easily lose her temper during difficult moments in the race. Dana would also berate Matt for not listening during each leg of the race, causing the team to lose time with their arguing.

Even though Dana & Matt had their ups and downs, the team proved that they were able to pull together when it mattered most. They developed a connection with Tyler & Korey early on, which helped them to place near the top of the pack. The couple also proved to be strong physical competitors for the other teams. They also had a determination to win the game and didn’t surrender despite many setbacks.

1 Jonathan & Victoria (Season 6)

By far the most highly dysfunctional team to compete on The Amazing Race was Jonathan & Victoria. The couple competed in season 6 and spent their entire time on the season bickering and belittling each other. Jonathan also shocked viewers when he physically shoved Victoria after the team lost a footrace to a pit stop in Germany.

Despite the upsetting moments shared between the pair, they were also able to prove they were strong competitors. The team consistently finished near the top of the pack during their time on the race. However, the fighting between the team ultimately led to the team’s downfall when they misread a clue, and ended up eliminated.
