Metagross is only obtainable after players obtain the National Dex, and it’s one of the best Psychic-type choices to add to a competitive team because of its dual Psychic- and Steel-typing. Starmie can only be obtained after players use a Water Stone on Staryu, and multiple Water Stones can be found by mining in the Grand Underground. Slowpoke is a Shining Pearl exclusive that can be found in the Grand Underground after obtaining the National Dex and evolves into Slowbro at level 37.

Psychic-type Pokémon like Azelf, Slowbro, Metagross, and Starmie all have excellent stats and can fit in nicely on any competitive team in Pokémon BDSP. Azelf is best used as the typical lead shutdown that prevents opponents from setting up too many field conditions like Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes. Slowbro’s Regenerator ability allows it to switch in and out of battle in tight spots, and, every time it’s sent back in, it regains a little bit of health. Metagross is a standard, physical offensive choice, and, after setting up an Agility, it can outspeed most Pokémon. Starmie has a large movepool to choose from and can even learn Rapid Spin to remove any sort of field effects while boosting its own Speed stat.
