The Best Competitive PsychicType Pokémon In Diamond & Pearl

Many players who try to build the best competitive teams in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl include a Psychic-type Pokémon in their party. Although Psychic-type Pokémon have weaknesses to Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-types, the different type combinations of various Psychic-types improve their resistances.

Psychic-type Pokémon are the perfect counters for the best competitive Fighting-type Pokémon in BDSP, particularly because Fighting-type Pokémon usually have lower Special Defense stats. Most Psychic-type Pokémon are best suited for Special Attack moves, and their unique ability to use many moves from different elemental types like Ice, Electric, and Fire gives them excellent coverage. Additionally, Psychic-type moves deal 2x damage to Poison-type Pokémon as well. Having a Psychic-type Pokémon on the team complements any Fairy-types on the team as well, as both types of Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have opposing weaknesses and resistances.

The best Psychic-type Pokémon to use competitively in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are Azelf, Metagross, Starmie, and Slowbro. Before players can capture Azelf in Pokémon BDSP, or Mesprit and Uxie, they’ll have to defeat the Elite Four. Metagross is only obtainable after players obtain the National Dex, and it’s one of the best Psychic-type choices to add to a competitive team because of its dual Psychic- and Steel-typing. Starmie can only be obtained after players use a Water Stone on Staryu, and multiple Water Stones can be found by mining in the Grand Underground. Slowpoke is a Shining Pearl exclusive that can be found in the Grand Underground after obtaining the National Dex and evolves into Slowbro at level 37.

The Best Competitive PsychicType Pokémon In Diamond & Pearl

Psychic-type Pokémon like Azelf, Slowbro, Metagross, and Starmie all have excellent stats and can fit in nicely on any competitive team in Pokémon BDSP. Azelf is best used as the typical lead shutdown that prevents opponents from setting up too many field conditions like Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes. Slowbro’s Regenerator ability allows it to switch in and out of battle in tight spots, and, every time it’s sent back in, it regains a little bit of health. Metagross is a standard, physical offensive choice, and, after setting up an Agility, it can outspeed most Pokémon. Starmie has a large movepool to choose from and can even learn Rapid Spin to remove any sort of field effects while boosting its own Speed stat.
