Starting in season 4, Penny, Amy, and Bernadette spent a significant amount of time together on The Big Bang Theory. The trio, affectionately known by some fans as Penny’s Posse, became one of the show’s leading forces, often getting their own story independent of the guys.
The girls shared plenty of memorable storylines, many of which are some of the show’s best. All three excelled when they were together, so when it comes to ranking their most unforgettable moments, there’s plenty of material for fans to choose from. However, some scenes are utterly iconic, showcasing the actresses’ comedic talents and the character’s unbreakable bond.
10 The Trip To Vegas
During the fifth episode of season 8, “The Focus Attenuation,” the girls go to Las Vegas for the weekend. Things get complicated when Penny has to stay in and study for a field ride, forcing Amy and Bernadette to hit the bar by themselves. They get drunk out of their minds and even force Penny to go to a strip club with them, although she keeps studying nonetheless.
It’s fun to see the sheltered Amy and Bernadette loosening up. The change in the group’s dynamic, with Penny being the studious one and Amy and Bernadette turning into party animals, is a classic sitcom plot. The episode also showcases how great Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik are at physical comedy.
9 Bernadette, The Wildebeest
Season 4 was pivotal for Amy and Bernadette. They were going from guest characters to series regulars, and the show was still finding ways to include them in the plots. “The Wildebeest Implementation” is an excellent episode for them, with Bernadette acting as an undercover spy to learn more about Priya.
Penny’s lies, coupled with Amy’s lack of tact and Bernadette’s inability to lie, soon overcomplicate matters, and Bernie ends up telling everyone that Penny is dating an astronaut and on her way to Prague to shoot a movie with Angelina Jolie. Eventually, Bernie is unable to continue the lie and abruptly leaves, leaving Leonard and Priya confused.
8 Amy’s Bachelorette Party
Amy finally marries Sheldon in the season 11 finale, after nearly six years of dating. Penny and Bernadette throw her a bachelorette party, and while Amy expects a wild event filled with alcohol and strippers, her friends have other plans. They organize a quilting bee instead and plan to spend the night quilting and drinking tea.
Suffice it to say, Amy is not happy. She insists she wants to go out and have a wild night, and they go to a bar. Amy ends up passing out after only a couple of shots, but Penny and Bernie add some embellishments to the story, giving her the bachelorette party she wanted.
7 A Girls’ Night Full Of Secrets
“The Troll Manifestation” sees the girls at their purest and sweetest. When Bernie and Amy find “Serial Ape-ist” on television, they decide to watch it, much to Penny’s chagrin. She then finds a video of Bernie competing to be Miss California Quiznos 1990. Bernie, wanting to get the attention off her, reveals Amy writes Little House on the Prairie-themed fanfiction, and Penny reads it out loud.
The episode could’ve gone the easy way out and have the girls try to humiliate each other. Instead, and even when they’re teasing each other, they never overdo it. In fact, Penny and Bernadette find themselves genuinely engaged with Amy’s fanfic, leading to one of their most memorable nights together.
6 The Isolation Permutation
In early season 5, Amy gets to be the star of an episode, and she doesn’t disappoint. As they plan Bernadette’s wedding, Amy, who never had girlfriends growing up, becomes overly excited. She overdoes it with her inappropriate comments and insists they engage in bizarre bonding rituals.
Penny and Bernadette go dress shopping without her, and Amy descends into a spiral of depression. She gets drunk, plays R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” on her harp, and spends all night crying in Sheldon’s arms. The episode ends with Bernadette making Amy her Maid of Honor, but everything that comes before is comedy gold (and it’s some of the best material Mayim Bialik ever received).
5 The Hammer Argument
Big Bang wasn’t a good representation for female comic book fans. In fact, the show often suggested that only guys and “geeks” were fans of superheroes and comics, and girls view them as pathetic and silly. However, the girls got actively involved with comics in one episode, and the result was pretty entertaining.
It all begins when they disagree about the nature of Thor’s hammer. They read the guys’ comics but don’t find a definitive answer, so they go to the comic book store to settle the argument. The highlight of the episode comes at the very end when Penny questions Red Hulk’s worthiness. Bernadette’s response? “YOU don’t know his life!”
4 The Trip To Disneyland
“The Contractual Obligation Implementation” sees the girls ditching work to spend the day at Disneyland. Penny wants to “get drunk and go on rides,” but Bernadette has other plans. She wants to become a Disney Princess, and Amy thinks it would be fun too. They all want to be Cinderella, but Bernadette makes it very clear she’s the only Cinderella in the group.
The episode then finds them in full princess costume: Penny is Sleeping Beauty, Amy is Snow White, and Bernadette is Cinderella. The visual gag is funny enough, but when Bernadette’s mean side comes out, all hell breaks loose. The men in their lives also appreciate the costumes, except, of course, for Sheldon.
3 The First Sleepover
The girls’ first storyline together has them attend a night in at Penny’s apartment. It soon turns into a sleepover, Amy’s first, and they engage in traditional slumber party activities. Amy, still in female-Sheldon form, reacts awkwardly to games like Truth or Dare, asking questions that range from bizarre to inappropriate.
When Bernadette and Amy pester Penny about her breakup with Leonard, she shuts herself in her room. In the episode’s most memorable scene, Amy recites Chaucer’s “The Miller’s Tale” to Bernie’s delight and Penny’s confusion.
2 The Parking Spot Escalation
Much of Big Bang’s humor comes from Sheldon’s numerous and at times annoying idiosyncrasies. His stubbornness and self-centeredness are bountiful sources of entertainment, as proven by the season six episode “The Parking Spot Escalation.”
Amy and Bernie get dragged into their respective partner’s fight, rather necessarily. However, they prove to be far more intense than the men when their feud goes from words to actions. Bernadette delivers what is perhaps the show’s nastiest insult, and Amy sends Penny to the hospital with a broken nose. The plot is always inches away from not working, but the actresses are so game that the result is undeniably hilarious.
1 Amy’s First Time
After Sheldon and Amy get back together, he decides to give Amy a meaningful present for her birthday. He seeks help from Penny and Bernadette and reveals one of the possible gifts is “that (he) have coitus with (Amy).” Penny breaks her wine glass out of surprise, and Bernadette’s “wild thang” is as hilarious as unexpected.
However, the storyline’s peak comes when Penny and Bernie suggest Amy get a bikini wax and watch a dirty movie to see if she has any questions. When Amy insists on knowing why the girls are acting weird, they confess Sheldon’s ready to be intimate. Amy’s “You shut your damn mouth!” is one of the show’s funniest quotes, and Penny and Bernie’s expressions are the cherry on top.
