The Biggest Bugs In New World (So Far)

Ever since its release on September 28, 2021, Amazon’s massive open-world online multiplayer RPG New World has garnered a reputation for being one of the glitchiest new games to hit the market. Taking place in the mid-seventh century, the game challenges players to forge a colony on a fictional plot of land patterned after the Americas, working together to create a viable new nation.

While bugs are part and parcel of most new gaming rollouts, the fact that New World employs a buy-t0-play business model has left fans quite irate over the number of gameplay glitches. For those set to give New World a whirl, beware of the problems that continue to plague its rep.

Long Wait Times & Player Queues

The Biggest Bugs In New World (So Far)

Due to popular demand from gamers around the globe, the New World servers were ill-equipped to handle the capacity of players who flocked to Stream to try the game during its initial release. This led to players grousing about extensive wait times and queue lines that made it nearly impossible to join the game. According to GameRant, New World’s servers drew up to 25,000 people at peak performance but only allowed a capacity of 2,000 people per server.

Amazon attempted to fix the issue by allocating more servers in all regions within two days of the game’s release, but the temporary fix only lead to further bugs and technical hiccups in other areas of the gameplay, leaving a lot of work to be done if New World wants to be considered one of the best open-world games on the market.

Random Character Invincibility

The Biggest Bugs In New World (So Far)

The next big technological glitch New World that players began to notice as soon as Amazon added more servers was a strange occurrence relating to a character’s invincibility. By minimizing the game’s screen and dragging it around the frame, players noticed that their character suddenly became invulnerable to attacks.

Amazon once again intervened to fix the issue via Patch 1.0.4. but players still noticed some strange inconsistencies. Depending on the server used, some players will have to resort to a barter economy to accrue as much wealth as possible during the diminution process, whole others are forced to locate the infinite wealth key through the duping process in order to rectify the bug.

Major Chatbox Glitches

The Biggest Bugs In New World (So Far)

Even the most basic of game functions in New World seem stuck in a perpetual alpha-state of development. For example, the simple chat boxes used for players to communicate with each other have been discovered to be entirely corruptible. Players can post random HTML code into the chat boxes and large cumbersome images will appear in the boxes and completely blind a player from seeing what’s occurring onscreen.

Per a Reddit user, these corruptible chat boxes can also kick a person out of the game entirely “if they hover over a word.” One response to the original poster includes another gamer saying the “whole server was laughing when a Sausage appeared in the chat.” Beyond culinary items, large yellow boxes have also been used via the bug to completely blur a player’s vision. All told, this is probably the most egregious yet entertaining New World bug yet and a key reason why the game may never touch the best RPGs ever made. And while attempts were made to fix the issue in late October, the so-called correction led to the next major bug.

Random Gold Dupes

Another head-scratching curio resulting from the “fixed” Chat Box bugs in New World include a random gold duplication glitch. A vital aspect of the gameplay is improving a player’s colony and serving as town governor, using gold accumulated throughout the game to pay for upgrades.

However, as soon as the Chat Box bugs were ironed out, players instantly noticed that once they began their upgrades, they can see the gold coins in the bank but for whatever reason, the upgrade process never starts. Worse yet, players are still charged gold coins for the update cost. Obviously, players do not want to pay for upgrades that never come, causing massive complaints to the game developers that have yet to be rectified in satisfying ways.

Infinite Hatchet Job

The Biggest Bugs In New World (So Far)

One of the most recent bugs players noticed in the massive open-world game includes a hatchet that can be wielded to defeat solo-end missions with incredible ease. Once a hatchet is obtained during the Against All Odds mission, players are typically afforded a 10% base damage increase for every enemy struck five meters away. However, players are reporting that the buff continues after a player dies or exits the five-meter radius and suddenly allows the hatchet to deliver 2,000 points of damage per strike on an enemy.

The bug effectively gives a player the ability to inflict infinite damage and beat end-level bosses without much difficulty, making it a good RPG game for beginners. Some enjoy the bug, as it offers chances to kill boars and do some fishing, but on the whole, it’s more frustrating than anything.

Garden Of Genesis’ End Boss

Another glaring game-breaking bug that needs to be fixed immediately is the Garden of Genesis’ end boss, The Blighted Greenskeeper, suddenly sniping down players with a single shot despite being killed already. Weirder yet, the gunfire comes from an indiscernible direction as there is no corresponding animation with the shooter taking fire.

Beyond the annoyance of being gunned down without notice, the bug has been known to cost certain players like Mace at forums.newworld.com up to 500 gold coins and the key to the Garden of Genesis, disallowing them to complete the mission.
