The Book of Boba Fett’s Season 1 finale pulled in more households than The Mandalorian’s Season 2 finale.

According to Samba TV, which measures viewership from 3 million smart TVs, 1.5 million households watched at least five minutes of The Book of Boba Fett’s Season 1 finale from its Wednesday debut to the following Sunday. During the first five days of The Mandalorian’s Season 2 finale arriving on Disney+, 1.1 million Samba TV viewers tuned in.

“The momentum and excitement for the first season of The Book of Boba Fett certainly carried through to the finale,” Cole Strain, Samba TV’s Head of Measurement, said. “In fact, the 1.5M U.S. households watching the debut season’s finale through the weekend was 36% higher than The Mandalorian’s season two finale. Disney has done a great job creating strong original content that keeps viewers engaged and coming back for more.”

The numbers were down across the board for Disney+’s biggest shows following their premieres. The Book of Boba Fett launched to 1.7 million households, and all of Marvel’s 2021 shows experienced a similar drop from premiere to finale. Loki performed the strongest out of the Marvel and Star Wars content, debuting to 2.5 million viewers and dropping to 1.9 million for its Season 1 finale.

While The Book of Boba Fett has struggled critically when compared to The Mandalorian, it’s possible the success of the latter helped the former. It also doesn’t hurt that Disney+ has seen massive subscriber growth over the past year. And Boba Fett also benefited from a number of high-profile cameos leading up to the finale.

Episode 5 saw the return of Din Djarin to Star Wars television, with many critics calling it the best episode yet of Boba Fett — despite the titular bounty hunter not appearing once. The next episode briefly brought Boba into the fold but primarily focused on Mando seeking out Grogu. The return of Baby Yoda along with Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker, once again voiced by Mark Hamill and brought to life with CGI and a body double, surely helped bring eyes to the finale. And Episode 7, the final of the first season, continued the trend, reuniting Mando and Grogu, teaming up Din and Boba, and featuring much more of Cad Bane, who made his live-action debut in Episode 6. Add in a rancor fighting a giant droid, and word of mouth likely brought more viewers to the finale across the five-day window Samba TV measures.

Season 1 of The Book of Boba Fett is now streaming on Disney+.
