When one talks about some of the most popular superhero shows around, it goes without saying that The Boys would be mentioned in this conversation at some point or the other. It’s funny, because while other shows focus more on grandiose action sequences and out-of-this-world fictional storylines, The Boys is very much a construct that’s rooted in reality, identifying the viewer’s pre-set notions on superhero culture and twisting everything by putting them through realistic and topical scenarios that feel all the more relatable in the current climate.

Of course, having a brilliant setting is not enough to be a great show — The Boys also has an amazing cast of intriguing characters, each of whom becomes memorable in their own unique manner. The show’s shining light obviously is Homelander, who is definitely one of the most interesting characters in the entire show. The idea of a villainous Superman might not be all that revolutionary, but one can’t deny that Homelander just feels unique in a manner that is truly riveting.

10 Homelander Can’t See Through Zinc

One thing that most people don’t know about Homelander is the fact that he can’t see through one particular kind of metal — zinc.

This is awfully similar to Superman, whose Super-Vision still doesn’t allow him to see through lead.

9 He Actually Wouldn’t Have Been Able To Save The Flight From Crashing

The airline hijacking and subsequent crash is one of the most intense moments in season 1, where Homelander’s lackadaisical attitude leads to the flight controls getting messed up by his laser vision. So, Homelander decides to abandon the people and leave them to their doomed fate, since he apparently wouldn’t have been able to stop the flight from crashing.

People have looked into this and his statement was actually correct — Homelander was so dense and the flight was moving at such a high speed that any attempts to stop it would’ve led to Homelander tearing through the entire flight instead.

8 Both Antony Starr And Karl Urban (Butcher) Are New Zealanders

Homelander is an All-American hero who very much personifies this moniker with his behavior. Meanwhile, Butcher is a hard-ass Britisher who is quite the tough guy indeed.

The funny thing is that both these actors are actually New Zealanders, which is quite surprising given the fact that their accents are actually quite convincing indeed.

7 Homelander’s Final Scene In Season 2 Was Actually Supposed To Appear In Season 1

There’s a rather hilarious and unique scene when Homelander decides to be extremely inappropriate on top of a building while looking down at the people he’s supposed to protect.

What might surprise you is that this scene was actually supposed to appear in episode 2 of season 1 itself, when Madelyn Stillwell gives him a dressing down. He responds to this by going on top of the Chrysler Building and doing the same thing as he did in season 2’s finale.

6 Homelander Wants To Be A Father Figure To Everyone Because Of His Own Upbringing

One thing about Homelander that should be pretty clear by this point is that he wants to be a father figure that’s beloved by everyone in the world.

These narcissistic tendencies stem from his troubled upbringing as a lab rat, which prevented him from enjoying any semblance of a memorable childhood.

5 He’s An Ordained Minister

Homelander never misses a moment to preach about the Lord in front of his fans whenever he has the chance, and there’s a reason why he does this so many times with impunity.

He’s actually an ordained minister, which means that — in a messed-up way — he’s technically communicating the word of God, which is not exactly reassuring to hear.

4 He Is Smarter And More Confident In The Show

One thing about Homelander is that he’s way more impressive and strong as a character, as compared to his comic book counterpart.

In the comics, Homelander’s insecurities are somehow even more severe, he has issues regarding his confidence, and he doesn’t really use his brain to gauge a situation at all. He’s a shell of his counterpart in the show, and one might argue that this change was ultimately for the better.

3 He Is Uncomfortably Prejudiced In The Comics

Homelander is a bit of a loose cannon in the comics, especially when it comes to his words. He looks down upon people whom he considers to be beneath him, even going so far as to utter a ton of racial slurs with the utmost callousness.

While Homelander from the show might not exactly be a paragon of equality, even he draws a line at Stormfront’s uncomfortable views on race.

2 Homelander, A-Train, And Black Noir Harass Starlight Instead Of The Deep In The Comics

Starlight undergoes a rather traumatic moment when she’s forced to give in to The Deep’s lecherous demands in the show. However, this scene is somehow even worse in the comics.

Instead of The Deep doing this heinous act, it’s actually three members of The Seven — Homelander, A-Train, and Black Noir. It’s easily one of the more uncomfortable scenes in the entire comic… and this happens near the very beginning!

1 Homelander Was Manipulated More Often In The Comics

Homelander might not exactly be the smartest person in the show, but there’s still a limit to how often he’s manipulated. The fact that he kills Madelyn at the end of season 1 is proof enough of just how independent he can really be if he chooses to go down that particular route.

Meanwhile, in the comics, Homelander is pretty much manipulated throughout the comics. A good example would be the heinous thing he did to Becca, something that Butcher absolutely hates him for — in the comics, it’s actually a clone of Black Noir that does this deed and several other bad things under Homelander’s moniker, pretty much gaslighting the All-American into believing that he’s a psychopath.
