Amazon Prime’s The Boys is nothing if not shocking, but when did the audience see one of the show’s plot twists coming from a mile away?

One of many Amazon Prime’s original series, The Boys practically thrives off pulling the rug out from underneath the viewers. Every episode features something dark, twisted, and usually extremely gory to make the jaws of everyone watching drop.
There are plenty of instances where scenes successfully generate the reactions they’re intended to. However, sometimes a twist, whether it’s effective or not, can be predicted a mile away. The Boys features a few of those kinds of shockers-that-don’t-shock across the two seasons so far. So what moments did the audience actually see coming?
8 Robin’s Death
From the beginning of the very first episode, everyone knows something bad is going to happen. Hughie Campbell and his girlfriend Robin seem to have a perfect relationship. As always, a good relationship from the start usually means someone is going to die.
So when Robin steps off the sidewalk, having a pleasant conversation with Hughie, it is easy to predict that she’s about to bite it. Now, Robin being obliterated by A-Train (who is this world’s equivalent to the Flash) still manages to be an effectively awful death for the character, but her death was inevitable. It was the perfect motivation for Hughie to hate the Seven and join The Boys.
7 Vought Created The Supes
The corporation that owns and controls the evil superhero team known as The Seven is as corrupt as can be. As such, it made it pretty obvious from the start that they would be behind the creation of Supes. This was confirmed when it turns out that Compound V was created injected into children, giving Vought legal control of those children.
Given how much The Boys satires the likes of Disney and other powerful studios (which is slightly ironic seeing how it streams on Amazon), it came as no surprise to anyone that Vought would be up to sketchy stuff like this.
6 Murder Of Madelyn
Madelyn Stillwell’s rocky at best relationship with Homelander proved to be a creepy and hazardous one. On one end, Homelander views Madelyn as both a mother figure as a lover, which is bad enough.
Then there’s Madelyn, who constantly tries to control him and keep secrets from him. What could go wrong? Well, everything. By the climax of the first season, the fact that Homelander murders her despite Billy holding her hostage was not exactly a surprise. It was shockingly brutal but everyone knew Homelander was going to snap.
5 Annie’s Terrible Mother
The Boys satires many things about the modern world. It’s easy to see what Annie’s mother is: the overbearing stage mom who projects everything she didn’t get to do onto her child and makes them live their life how she wants it. This is seen all over the world with beauty pageants and young actresses.
That’s why it’s easy to immediately despise Starlight’s mother. Then it gets even worse when it turns out that she willingly accepted Compound V from Vought and signed over her daughter without a second thought. Is it cruel and downright despicable? Yes, but considering how she raised Annie, it was not a surprise either.
4 Starlight Joins The Boys
From the moment she joins The Seven, Starlight becomes a victim of their corruption and scummy methods. As such, it’s pretty obvious that at some point that she was going to betray them. So when A-Train is attacking the Boys, anyone can see that there is no way they can fight back.
Even though it was predictable, everyone cheered when Starlight arrived to fight her fellow member of The Seven. While most expected her to betray A-Train, it was still satisfying to see her become the hero she wanted to be.
3 Becca Lives
The biggest giveaway to this twist is that Becca is never actually shown to be killed in the first season. It’s the basic fundamentals of story-telling: unless a character is shown to be killed on screen, everyone is going to suspect they are still alive somewhere.
So, nobody was really all that surprised when Homelander took Billy Butcher to where Vought was keeping Becca alive and safe from the world. It also came as no surprise that she was the mother of a Supe who also happened to be Homelander’s son.
2 Stormfront Is The Absolute Worst
At least with Homelander there was the illusion that he was a good hero at first. With Stormfront, her entire demeanor and attitude were toxic. She was rude, tactless, and completely unlikeable to begin with.
So when it turned out that she was a racist and murderous villain, most viewers just nodded. It was also with that evil behavior that it was even less surprising that she was a very old Supe who happened to be a Nazi. Stormfront is clearly a baddie when even Homelander of all people was giving her looks of judgment for her views.
1 Homelander Is Evil
Speaking of which, the first episode certainly tried its hardest with Homelander, even Billy Butcher calls him a saint of The Seven. Yeah, nobody believed it for once second because the concept of an evil version of Superman has become popular in recent years, even becoming an overused trope in movies, shows, and video games.
Not a single viewer was surprised when Homelander brings down a plane with his heat vision. He not only kills an official of Baltimore and his innocent son. This is actually one of the tamer things that Homelander does in the series, paving the way for one of the most despicable characters on television.
