The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

The Boys is based on a comic novel series. The show is an intriguing idea that furthers the conversation mentioned in other superhero entertainment stories like Batman vs. Superman and The Avengers. The show addresses the following questions: What are the consequences of having super-powered superheroes in society with the everyday person? What happens when superheroes aren’t all decent people and become more concerned about their celebrity status than the people they are supposed to protect?

We get an exploration of this when Hughie, an everyday human, watches his girlfriend torn apart as A-Train (a superhero) runs through her. While the humans have their own powers (i.e. Hughie with his intelligence), we will be ranking the superheroes, both those of the Seven and those on the outside of this core group.

Updated on December 29th, 2020 by Scoot Allan: The second season of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys introduced a number of new Supes with powerful abilities that threatened both Billy Butcher’s team and The Seven as the status quo began to change dramatically as the series progressed and new characters appeared. With each new Supe came a new power or ability that shocked viewers and changed the dynamics between a number of characters, though some of the new powers aren’t quite as useful as the other established abilities that have appeared across two seasons of the fan-favorite comic adaptation The Boys.

16 Popclaw Has Enhanced Strength And Razorsharp Retractable Claws

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

Popclaw is A-Train’s semi-secret girlfriend. While she is an actress, she doesn’t have the celebrity status of the Seven. She possesses extreme strength and sharp claws that she can use to fight, though she does work out to increase her strength.

We don’t get many scenes of Popclaw in fighting mode, but she easily killed her landlord when they were engaged in a sexual act which proved her strength, though A-Train was able to take her out quickly without much trouble by giving her an overdose.

15 Ezekiel Can Stretch Every Part Of His Body

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

Although not in the Seven, he has ties with them as we see Homelander and Starlight at his religious function. His celebrity status comes from him being the leader of a large Christian group, which benefits his position with Vought.

Apart from this celebrity status, his power is extreme elasticity. Like Marvel’s Mister Fantastic, Ezekiel can stretch his limbs to extreme lengths in all directions. He also is very close to Homelander, which is a power in itself.

14 Mesmer Can Read Minds With Physical Contact

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

Mesmer once was part of a previous superhero team and has become somewhat of a celebrity. He wants to get back into A-Train and Homelander’s inner circle, and that is what dampens his power. While his power is incredible as he can read your mind by touching your hand, his desperation makes him weaker.

He doesn’t read his superhero acquaintances or the urgency of his human allies well. In addition, he believes that one mind-reading equals the whole person, not realizing that people can change and develop connections (i.e. his estranged daughter).

13 Doppelganger Is Able To Completely Transform His Body

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

While Doppelganger first appeared in the first season when he worked with Madelyne Stillwell to help blackmail corporate rivals, though his unique services were retained by Homelander following her death at his hands.

Doppelganger was kept away at a secluded cabin by Homelander, where he was forced to use his shapechanging abilities to transform first into Madelyne and then into Homelander himself to help with his sexual release and act as his closest companion until he was killed by Homelander.

12 The Deep Can Speak To Fish And Has Enhanced Strength

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

The Deep is portrayed as initially a “good” guy, and then a creep, as he takes advantage of the newcomer, Starlight. We would think that The Deep would be all-powerful based on his ability to communicate with creatures of the sea. However, when we see this communication put to use, The Deep “rescues” a dolphin, by misting it while he rushes to get it to the ocean.

Chased by the police, The Deep slams on his breaks, leading to the dolphin being thrown through the windshield to the pavement where it is run over by a semi. Not the smartest bulb in the universe, The Deep doesn’t have the strongest powers either.

11 Black Noir Is A Master Martial Artist And Has Enhanced Strength And Durability

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

Black Noir is the most mysterious of the Seven, as he doesn’t even open up to his other teammates beyond Homelander, who seems familiar with Black Noir in the adaptation, which may provide some clues as to his comic-based origin.

It was revealed in the second season of The Boys that the master martial artist not only wielded incredible strength, but he was also incredibly durable and nearly impossible to kill, making him one of the most effective members of the Seven.

10 Translucent’s Diamond Hard Skin Renders Him Invisible

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

In the opening scene of the first episode, two teenagers debate whether Translucent or the Deep would win in a fight. Their debate continues here while we rank the powers. It is true that Translucent and the Deep seem almost equally matched.

Translucent is invisible and hard to kill, based on his unique skin. Still, he is killed by Hughie after Frenchie figures out that they can take down Translucent from the inside. Once the secret of his skin was cracked, Translucent was pretty vulnerable.

9 Kenji Miyashiro Has Deadly Telekinetic Hands

Kimiyo’s brother Kenji Miyashiro was mentioned in the first season, though he didn’t make his debut until the second season as the mysterious Supe-Terrorist who was given his abilities by the same organization that transformed his sister.

However, while Kimiyo was able to escape with the help of the Boys, Kenji was conscripted and manipulated to work with the Shining Light Liberation Army with his powerful telekinetic hands, which made him a deadly but controllable threat until he was killed in battle with Stormfront.

8 Lamplighter Is Able To Control Fire With Pyrokinesis

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

The character known as Lamplighter was an original member of the Seven in the original The Boys comic series, though he was absent from the team and only mentioned a few times during the first season of Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation.

However, the character debuted in the second season, where his pyrokinetic abilities to control fire and his past with both the Seven and the Boys was revealed. Lamplighter’s powerful abilities were put to use eradicating Supes at the Sage Grove Center before he escaped and killed himself with his powers.

7 A-Train Has Devastating Super Speed

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

A-Train is fast, similar to the Flash, and on the super drug, he is stronger and faster. While we aren’t sure if he is actually more powerful than The Deep, he is brighter, and that counts for something. A-Train also is able to fight Starlight, who is extremely powerful, leaving her to recover on the floor. This proves that A-Train is pretty powerful.

Ultimately, his desire for even more speed leads him to addiction, and then to a heart attack. While he was able to recover from the heart attack, his abilities were left diminished and he was nearly replaced on the Seven by fellow speedster Shockwave.

6 Starlight Can Absorb And Rechannel Energy

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

Starlight is a good superhero, the one who earnestly wants to help others. While the recognition is nice, she cares more about using her powers for good. Apart from having strength, she can harness light, making it bright enough to blind people.

When she uses her powers, her eyes glow, displaying how integrated her power is into her entire being. On top of this, she has worked to strengthen and harness her powers. When she shows her powers, even some of the Seven are impressed, and a little scared.

5 Queen Maeve Has Super Strength, Speed, And Agility

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

Queen Maeve appears to be nearly equal to Homelander in powers. She has super strength, great fighting skills, and can leap to soaring heights. In the opening scene, she stops a vehicle by merely standing in front of it. Homelander respects her due to her powers.

Additionally, Queen Maeve had once been like Starlight—in the superhero business to save others and to make a difference. She is smart, reflective, and jaded. However, out of all the Seven, she may be the only one whose powers rival Homelander and could stop him (or at least slow him down).

4 The Female/Kimiki Has Enhanced Strength, Speed, And Advanced Regeneration

Frenchie, Hughie, Billy, and Marvin discover an imprisoned Kimiko. Something about her predicament strikes the empathy chord in Frenchie, and he frees her. On top of having powers similar to the most powerful of the Seven, she also can heal herself, making her hard to kill.

In the show, she was experimented on as an adult, leading her to be less balanced in her display of powers. She took out Black Noir though, and no doubt, if her favorite human, Frenchie was threatened again, she would attack. We wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end.

3 Stormfront Has Enhanced Strength, Durability, And Electrical-Based Abilities

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

Translucent’s replacement on the Seven was the powerful hero Stormfront, who was a female take on the character from the comics whose impressive abilities and social media presence made her one of the most powerful and popular new additions to the series.

Stormfront’s ability to generate and manipulate electrical blasts of energy can be used to proper her in-flight or telekinetically control people and objects, while also exhibiting incredibly enhanced strength, durability, and longevity that has kept her in an unaging state for decades.

2 Homelander Has Superman-Like Abilities Including Flight, Strength, And Heat Vision

The Boys All The Powers Ranked By Strength & Usefulness

The most powerful of the group is Homelander. He is like an unhinged Superman, except he has no kryptonite. He has super strength, agility, fighting skills, flight, and laser eyes. In addition, he doesn’t appear to be truly attached to anyone.

He fries the brain of one of his closest “friends.” He also is hard to kill, not even a bomb appears to be able to take him down. A formidable foe, indeed, we may need to have multiple super-powered individuals come together to knock Homelander down a peg or two.

1 Victoria Neuman Can Explode Heads At Will

The second season of The Boys introduced a mysterious Supe with the ability to cause another person’s head to explode through unrevealed means, which began to take a number of important players off of the board.

When a whistleblower planned to reveal Voght’s secrets to Congress, a bloody attack was launched as a number of heads exploded with no way to stop it. The super responsible was eventually revealed to be congresswoman Victoria Neuman, who is secretly using her ability to achieve an as-yet-unknown goal.
