A long-requested feature is finally hitting The Elder Scrolls: Blades as the latest update introduces equipment and ability loadouts that all players will be able to use. The change will give players the ability to access up to five different loadouts that can be quickly swapped around based on the encounters that players face. It’s one of the largest upgrades that Blades has seen and a feature that the community has been asking for since the mobile game was first released.

The new loadouts were part of the major 1.6 update and allow players to create specific weapon, armor, and skill choices for different situations. Players will be able to switch between loadouts at any time during the single player mode, or between rounds if they are playing PVP. While loadouts may have been the focus, the update also made several other changes, including adding more enemies – specifically more swarm-type enemies for players to encounter. Enemy groups have also been changed to make more sense so that disparate types won’t be hanging around in groups if it doesn’t make sense.

The full Town Hall for the debate is available from the Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel. Other minor changes for the update include the ability to skip boss cutscenes and the ability to change how chests open (players can now choose if they want instant-open chests or not). But it’s loadouts that are the big draw for this update, since the community has been asking for it for so long. Other popular requests, like more ability slots and reworking how enchanting works in the endgames, are changes that didn’t make it on this update. Bethesda has several good reasons to keep improving Blades with such key changes. Not only does it keep the Elder Scrolls name alive while players wait for Elder Scrolls VI to come out, but it makes the mobile game ready for other platforms. The game has already been delayed once for the Nintendo Switch, but now waiting fans can expect updates for loadouts and similar improvements to be included when Blades finally launches on Switch in 2020.

While Bethesda does have other Elder Scrolls projects in the works, it’s uncertain how long they will take to produce and when fans will be able to experience them. Elder Scrolls VI is an indeterminate amount of time away while Bethesda bets big on its sci-fi RPG Starfield first. Another side game, the Elder Scrolls: Legends digital card game, was put on hold back in December 2019. It’s not clear if it will be reinstated or if Bethesda is leaving the game to die. For now, fans will have to be content with the alterations to The Elder Scrolls: Blades and hope the game continues to change in important and requested ways.
