The Flash Adds Batwoman & More Arrowverse Heroes For 5Part Crossover Event

The CW has revealed the next big Arrowverse crossover event, which will feature characters including Batwoman, Black Lightning and Mia Queen to kick off The Flash season 8. The TV franchise’s last big crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” saw the heroes of the different DC shows joining forces to save their collective reality. The Arrowverse has changed a good deal since “Crisis” concluded, with some shows being cancelled and a few new ones joining The CW, setting the stage for some interesting storylines in The Flash’s upcoming crossover event.

Crossovers have long been a central part of comic book stories, and a big part of the Arrowverse’s appeal has been its ability to translate those series-spanning events into live action. Seeing the leading characters of different shows like Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl interact is a fun way to break up their usual pacing. And so far, The CW has done a good job of finding interesting character pairings and storylines that play to the strengths of the different series’ stars.

Per EW, the next big Arrowverse crossover, entitled “Armageddon,” will kick off The Flash season 8 with a special 5-part event. The story will focus around “A powerful alien threat” that arrives on Earth to battle Team Flash. In addition to the show’s cast, “Armageddon” will feature a number of familiar faces from the rest of the Arrowverse, including Batwoman (Javicia Leslie), Sentinel (Chyler Leigh), Atom (Brandon Routh), Black Lightning (Cress Williams), Mia Queen (Kat McNamara), Ryan Choi (Osric Chau). Tom Cavanagh and Neal McDonough are also slated to return as Eobard Thawn and Damien Darhk. The new crossover will start with the Flash season 8 premiere on November 16.

It should be exciting for fans to see the different corners of the Arrowverse all brought together once again, especially since some of the characters returning haven’t appeared since their respective series ended. There will be new pairings, some long awaited introductions, and surely plenty of tense action as Earth’s heroes fight back against the mysterious extraterrestrial threat. Some of the returning characters will need pretty good explanations for how they get back to The Flash’s story, leaving big questions hanging for season 8 to answer.

The fact that “Armageddon” will take place entirely within the confines of The Flash is just one more piece solidifying the series as the de facto flagbearer for the entire Arrowverse. At the rate it’s going, the show could soon outpace Arrow as the longest-running series the franchise has ever had, and it’s shown no signs of slowing down any time soon. The Flash season 8 premieres with the beginning of the “Armageddon” crossover event on November 16.
