The synopsis for ‘Cause and Effect’ teases some uneasy alliances on The Flash (see: Killer Frost), as Team Flash works to take down Savitar.

The Flash Cause and Effect Synopsis Killer Frost Has a Proposal

[SPOILERS for those not caught up on The Flash ahead.]

After a brief hiatus, The Flash is all set to return next week. Following Barry and the team’s fight against Abra Kadabra a few weeks back, our hero is all set to head into the future for some insight into how to stop Savitar and save Iris. Unfortunately, the future aka. 2024 doesn’t look very pleasant. From what we’ve seen so far, villains will be running amok while our heroes are broodier than Oliver Queen. It also doesn’t look like Barry’s trip through time will see the end of his troubles, either.

Following next week’s ‘The Once and Future Flash’, Killer Frost will return with a vengeance to take on Vibe in their prophesied battle. That episode will also see Anne Dudek (Mad Men) make her debut on the show as a quirky genius trying to help Team Flash discover Savitar’s mysterious identity and trap him/her. All told, the next few weeks are going to be quite trying for our heroes, and will likely only grow bleaker as the show heads towards the season 3 finale. And while Oliver will be teaming up with his foes to stop Prometheus over on Arrow, Barry will be forced to take similar actions.

The CW has release the synopsis for ‘Cause and Effect’, which will air three weeks from now. In it, much of the work from ‘I Know Who You Are’ will continue, but with a bit of a twist:

“DRASTIC TIMES CALL FOR DRASTIC MEASURES – Barry (Grant Gustin) takes drastic measures to stop Savitar. Meanwhile, H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) continues to push Tracy Brand (guest star Anne Dudek) to design the trap for Savitar and Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) returns with an interesting proposal. David McWhirter directed the episode written by Judalina Neira & Lauren Certo (FLA321). Original airdate 5/9/2017.”

Like Oliver joining with Deathstroke, Team Flash will have to work with an evil version of a former friend when Killer Frost offers them a proposal they likely won’t be able to refuse. The events set in motion during the episode will also carry through to The Flash season 3 finale, which will follow just two episodes later. Luckily, when the show returns, it’ll be done taking breaks as the final five episodes of season three will all air without interruption.

For fans of the lighter Flash of season one, many are hoping that the business with Savitar and Iris will be resolved in a relatively positive manner. After all, even Oliver has embraced the light more over the years. Without hope, Barry will lose one of his strongest assets in his battle against evil. Here’s hoping the sight of his brooding future self will shake some sense into him.

The Flash returns with ‘The Once and Future Flash’ on Tuesday, April 25 at 8pm on The CW.
