The Flashs Savitar Reveal Different From Past Villain Twists

[Mild spoilers for the third season of The Flash]

The Flash has proven to be one of the most dynamic shows on television over the course of the past few years. Along with the show’s inherent comic book action, it has also produced some of the most memorable characters and villains in recent memory as well.

The first season revolved around the mystery behind Reverse Flash’s true identity and the motivations behind his hatred for Barry Allen. The second was Zoom, a speedster from another dimension whose arrival and beef with Allen was even harder to pinpoint. And in the current third season, The Flash has been trying to find a way to defeat Savitar, a mysterious speedster that was trapped within the Speedforce up until recently, who intends to murder Barry’s fiance.

Savitar’s true identity has been the topic of discussion among fans all season. Already fans have concocted convincing Savitar theories that could play a major role in how the third season of The Flash will ultimately pan out. However, actress Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost) teased in a recent interview with TV Line, that only the characters on-screen will be in on the discovery… for now:

“Slowly, different characters are going to learn who Savitar is. But I don’t know if the audience is going to be told anytime soon.”

While the Flash himself, Grant Gustin, explains things may not unfold in the familiar ways that many are anticipating:

“It’s not the same as past reveals… With Zoom and Reverse-Flash, the audience was starting to realize things before we all started to piece it together. But I don’t know how you would know this year. And when you do find out, it’s like, ‘Oh. My. God!’ There are really no secrets or hints leading up to to it.”

Every season, the Flash’s family continues to grow with new additions like Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) and familiar faces such as H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanagh). Wells has joined the team from an alternate Earth and Wally has already earned his spot as Flash’s sidekick, Kid Flash. However, they also seem to be at the top of many fans’ conspiracy lists.

There have been various clues that have pointed audiences in the direction of these two characters. Savitar has the affinity for calling Wally, “Wallace,” a formality that has generally only been spoken by Wells. Additionally, Wells has also taken on the role of trainer and mentor for Wally, a role eerily similar to Barry and Harrison Wells’ relationship during the first season. While on the other hand, Wally has shown to be a hot head who tends to leap before looking. Even more alarming, there have been countless times that Wally has shown to have a simmering anger under the surface towards Barry. Most recently in the last episode, when he intentionally sabotaged Barry’s engagement to his sister Iris.

However both options have been well-speculated, so as long as Gustin isn’t throwing a major misdirection, both characters should both be taken off of your detective evidence boards. In any case, with only eight episodes left in the season, the tension should only intensify for the Scooby Doo style mystery. It should be a fun ride.
