The Justice League of DCs Multiverse Prepares for War in New Preview

Warning: contains preview pages for Justice Incarnate #1!

The Justice Incarnate is perhaps the most unique team in the DC Universe, consisting of heroes from across the multiverse, united to combat evil. This mulitversal Justice League tasted defeat months ago in Infinite Frontier #6 at the hands of Darkseid. The team has sworn revenge and is preparing for war in a preview for Justice Incarnate #1, on sale in print and digital on November 30.

DC’s multiverse, originally destroyed in Crisis on Infinite Earths, was restored thanks to Infinite Crisis and 52. This new multiverse was brimming with new heroes and worlds, explored in titles such as Final Crisis, The Multiversity, and Infinite Frontier. The President Superman of Earth-23 brought together various heroes from across this multiverse to form Justice Incarnate, a team devoted to protecting the multiverse from evil. Among their members are Mary Marvel (from Earth-5), Captain Carrot (from Earth-26) and many others. Their most recent recruit is Barry Allen, from Earth-0. The team ran afoul of Darkseid, who has ascended to his ultimate form and now seeks to harness the power of the Great Darkness, lying beyond the edge of the Omniverse. The battle between Justice Incarnate and Darkseid’s forces ended in a victory for the Lord of Apokolips. President Superman and the Justice Incarnate will not be caught with their guard down again and are preparing for all-out war in a preview for Justice Incarnate #1, written by Joshua Williamson and Dennis Culver, art by Brandon Peterson, Andrei Bressan, Tom Derenick, colors by Hi-Fi and letters by Tom Napolitano.

The preview opens on Earth-8, home of Machinehead and the Retaliators. Machinehead, once a member of the Justice Incarnate, betrayed the team to Darkseid, resulting in his destruction. Doctor Multiverse brings Machinehead’s body back to Earth-8, drawing the ire of the Retaliators. Doctor Multiverse tells the team the “multiverse is sick” and something must be done. Doctor Multiverse points to a lightning bolt in the sky (looking much like the Flash’s logo) and tells them it’s a “beacon.” The Retaliators then find themselves facing down an invading army led by their enemy Tartarus.

Doctor Multiverse is correct: something is horribly wrong in the multiverse, and now it has come to Earth-8. Darkseid’s quest for the Great Darkness led Machinehead to betray his friends in the Justice Incarnate—a sign of the “sickness” Doctor Multiverse described. The heroes and villains of Earth-8 may not yet know the name Darkseid, but they will fear it as much as they fear Tartarus. The Justice Incarnate team themselves are not seen in the preview, but the beacon Doctor Multiverse refers to looks exactly like the Flash’s symbol. Barry Allen, the first hero from Earth-0 to join the Justice Incarnate, is imprisoned on a nightmarish world somewhere in the Omniverse—is this Barry trying to signal his teammates in the Justice Incarnate for help? Barry was captured by Pariah, a survivor of Crisis on Infinite Earths, who now has his own agenda for the multiverse—is Pariah’s corruption another sign of the sickness spreading through the multiverse?

Darkseid is escalating his quest for the Great Darkness, enlisting his family and some of the DC Universe’s darkest to help him find it. The Justice League of the multiverse—the Justice Incarnate, has not stopped either, and are preparing for war with the Lord of Apokolips.
