The King’s Man is set to investigate the origins of the titular Secret Service, but what do we need to know about the British intelligence agency?

The King’s Man is set to reveal the origins of the Kingsman Secret Service which fans are familiar with from the comics and the big screen franchise. The series thus far hasn’t unraveled too many mysteries surrounding the intelligence agency, likely so there’s plenty of material to explore in future sequels.

As time has gone on, there have been more and more questions surrounding the spy force and how they really began. Whether it’s also linked to their connection with the Statesman, how this international operation actually functions, or why each member is named after the Knights of Camelot, there is a lot more audiences would like to know about the Kingsman.

Who Started The Kingsman Secret Service?

The King’s Man appears to be answering the question as to who really started the Kingsman and for what purpose. For now, audiences are left to chew over the mystery. The creation of the group appears to have some kind of personal connection to those who lost their sons during WWI.

Perhaps it was a sense of justice that these men were seeking, or another use for their skills once their time on the battlefield had come to an end. There have been hints throughout about the legacy of the originals, but there are plenty of theories as to how The King’s Man will explain the group’s introduction.

Why Are They Named After The Knights Of Camelot?

The Kingsman themselves each have unique codenames. While it’s not surprising that they had to hide their aliases, it is a little unusual to use Camelot mythology in order to do so. Of course, this would continue to link up to the Britishness of the whole organization.

Yet there must be a deeper meaning as to why the likes of Arthur, Merlin, and Galahad were chosen in comparison to simple numbers or another naming system. It could have feasibly started as a joke, or are there more magical origins to the Secret Service at play?

Who Knows Of The Kingsman’s Existence?

The Kingsman themselves are incredibly secretive; they have to be in order to successfully carry out any of their missions. Yet there are clearly some people in the world who are aware of their existence. So who is allowed to know that the Kingsman is still operating?

The British Government would likely be one, although it appears that even some aspects of the Kingsman are kept out of politics. Other secret agencies might be aware of their presence, although the Statesman and other similar groups would be more familiar than perhaps MI5 or MI6.

How Does The Kingsman Choose A Leader?

The Kingsman is perhaps one of the best spy organizations on film thanks to its unique gadgets, incredible infrastructure, and useful hierarchy. A leader has to be chosen for the group, but it’s not been revealed how this process actually takes place.

It’s already been demonstrated through Eggsy’s journey how someone joins the Kingsman in the first place. Surely selecting a leader would be an even more rigorous process. Yet, someone corrupt previously managed to make their way to the top, so do the Kingsman require a new method?

How Many Other Groups Like The Kingsman Are There?

The Kingsman and the Statesman have been confirmed in this fictional universe already, but who else is out there operating in the field? In theory, each country could have its own variation of the group, protecting civilians from both domestic and international threats.

Is there a much larger network for the franchise to explore down the line, or are the United Kingdom and the United States the only two areas of the globe with such a complex secret agency? Perhaps The King’s Man could answer this as its origins are revealed.

Did The Statesman Exist Before The Kingsman?

The Kingsman might not have even been the first group to exist. It’s possible that there were others before them. The Statesman has seemingly been around for a shorter amount of time, but that can easily be retconned so that the group came first.

Alternatively, did the Kingsman draw inspiration from other international groups when designing their own organization? Perhaps Britain was really one of the last countries to catch up and was actually responsible for changing the way spycraft is really done.

When Did The Infrastructure Come About?

The infrastructure of any spy organization is incredibly important. From the way the gadgets are designed and who is responsible for creating them, to the uniforms, the headquarters, and all other manner of secret hideaways. Someone has to build this infrastructure from the ground up.

The King’s Man should reveal in part how this all came about. After all, the famous tailoring shop has already been seen in the trailers of the movie and will feature in some capacity. Did the first of the Kingsman build all of these things or did they take over preexisting operations?

What’s The Kingsman Recruitment Process Now?

With the Kingsman completely destroyed and only a few key agents remaining there’s going to have to be a lot more recruiting happening in order to get the group back up to their initial strength. For Eggsy and Harry, that means they’ll have to be responsible for the process.

Eggsy was rather disillusioned with the whole training and recruitment regime and would likely want to reinvent how it all functions. It’s plausible that with new leaders at the top of the mountain, a lot of things are going to change; a new generation can take over.

Will The Kingsman Be Remade?

The key to any great spy film is for the protagonist to be supported (and then usually brand themselves a renegade) by a whole organization. Bond has M, Q, Miss Moneypenny, and the rest of the crew while Eggsy does have the Kingsman by his side.

There are now so many roles available, like Merlin, that there’s a lot of gaps to fill. But will they actually want to rebuild the Kingsman? Maybe something new will take its place to defend the U.K. in the future, now that the previous agency has been proven to be unfit for the job. If so, what comes next?

With What Historical Events Was The Kingsman Involved?

The King’s Man is clearly throwing back to some of the events early into the Kingsman’s history, but which of these major moments intersect with famous scenes from history? The Kingsman have likely been present at every significant noteworthy story from the archives.

WWI appears to be their initial debut, but after that, there’s no telling what other historical events they have gotten involved with. WWII seems obvious, but perhaps even recent conflicts have been a point of contention for the secretive group.
