The fortune-teller in The Legend of Zelda: Skyword Sword HD doesn’t play a massive role in the game’s main story, but speaking with him can still be useful when it comes to tracking down treasure or getting hints about where to go next. At a certain point in the story though, he will abandon his post at Skyloft’s bazaar, leaving players unable to make the most of his magical services.

The good news is, it’s possible to bring him back to work, although doing so will require players to complete a side quest in order to help the unfortunate fortune-teller out. Compared to some of the other side quests in the game though, it’s actually quite an easy one, and completing it will earn players five more Gratitude Crystals as well as a 50% discount on all future readings.

How To Start The Broken Crystal Ball Side Quest

Players won’t be able to tackle the Broken Crystal Ball side quest until after they have completed the Fire Sanctuary dungeon and defeated The Imprisoned for the second time. After doing so, they may notice that Sparrot is no longer at his table at the bazaar. If they speak to Croo, who is sat at a table nearby, he will explain that Sparrot’s crystal ball got broken and ask Link to check in on the fortune-teller at his home to make sure that he is okay.

Sparrot’s house is on the eastern edge of Skyloft. To get there, players will need to cross the bridge, head up the hill and then follow the path round to the left and under the small stone tunnel. The house itself is painted bright yellow and purple and also has a picture of a crystal ball painted directly above the door, so it’s fairly easy to spot once players are in the general area.

Sparrot will tell Link that his old crystal ball was an ancient relic, but mention that there are more of them out there just waiting to be found. If Link agrees to help, Sparrot will tell him that the robot that salvaged his original crystal ball did so from a building that sits high atop a mountain peak. After the conversation ends, Fi will appear and ask Link if he wants to set the crystal ball as an additional dousing target, although it doesn’t really matter either way.

How To Find The Crystal Ball For Sparrot

To find the crystal ball, players will need to travel to the Eldin Volcano and so should make their way to the red pillar of light whenever they are ready to go. When given the option of where to drop down, they should head for the Temple Entrance bird statue, as this one is incredibly close to where players can find the crystal ball that Sparrot has asked Link to find.

Upon their arrival, players can use Fi’s dousing abilities to pinpoint the exact location of the crystal ball if they like, but there’s really no need. If they look up at the Earth Temple, they will see that there is a shiny crystal ball on a pole on the left above the temple’s entrance. Unfortunately, however, they won’t be able to reach it from their current location and so will need to do a little leg-work.

To get to the ball, players should take a left while facing the temple and then look for a dig spot in a small alcove in front of them and slightly to their right. Digging in this area will cause a hot air geyser to come out of the ground, which will hurl Link up into the air and onto a nearby platform. It’s possible that some players will have already dug up the geyser while searching for the five pieces of the Earth Temple key, in which case, they can skip the digging part and head straight for the platform.

While standing on top of this platform, players should now turn and face the Earth Temple and then look for a Clawshot target on the wall. Grappling over to this point will take players to a ledge above the temple’s entrance, and they can follow this ledge to get within reach of the crystal ball. If they now examine the ball, Fi will suggest calling the scrapper robot, and the smart-mouthed salvager will show up and take the crystal ball high up into the sky.

From here, all players need to do is use the bird statue near the temple’s entrance to return to the sky and then fly their Loftwing back to Skyloft with the scrapper robot in tow. Upon returning to Sparrot’s house, the robot will show up and deliver the crystal ball to its new owner, dropping it onto the table with a loud and rather uncomfortable thud. Thankfully, it doesn’t break.

Claiming The Reward

Sparrot is more than satisfied with his replacement crystal ball and will thank Link profusely for tracking it down for him. He’s so grateful, in fact, that he’ll give Link five Gratitude Crystals as a reward and will also offer to give the young adventurer a special discount on all future readings. This results in the fortune-teller only charging Link five Rupees to get his fortune told from now on, rather than the usual ten.

If players have completed all of the other side quests available to them at this time and have rounded up all 15 of the loose Gratitude Crystals around Skyloft, they should now have 70 crystals. If so, they can return to Batreux to collect two gold Rupees which are worth 300 Rupees a piece. These can be incredibly useful, particularly if players still need to purchase some of the more expensive items in Beedle’s flying shop.
