The Lego Movie The Faces Behind The Voices (& What Else Theyre Known For)

Before 2014, a film about LEGO would’ve sounded like a quick cash grab. However, The LEGO Movie was so much more than that. It told the story of an ordinary construction worker whose deep hidden building talents were the only hope of saving the LEGO universe. It was funny, clever, and heartfelt and would go on to become one of Warner Bros.’s most successful animated movies ever. It even spawned a sequel and two spin-offs.

One of the best aspects of the movie was its star-studded cast. The people behind those little LEGO characters were some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Although, as is often the case with animated movies, not everyone knows it. So for those not in the know, this will shed some light on which famous voices are in the movie.

10 Superman: Channing Tatum

As one of the most powerful characters in all of fiction, it’s no surprise that Superman is a Master Builder in the series. However, he doesn’t get much chance to show his skills as he’s constantly being annoyed by a clingy Green Lantern.

Multiple actors have played the live-action Man of Steel, but the LEGO version is voiced by Channing Tatum. Throughout his career, Tatum has excelled in both comedic and serious roles. His best performances arguably came in the 21 and 22 Jump Street movies. However, many viewers recognize him from his titular role in Magic Mike.

9 MetalBeard: Nick Offerman

MetalBeard is a huge mechanical pirate who accompanies the main characters on their adventure. Initially, he sees their plan to infiltrate Octan Tower as a fool’s errand and declines to help. Yet, he soon changes his mind and uses his powerful body and shape-shifting talents to assist the protagonist, Emmet.

The man to bring the pirate to life is Nick Offerman. Most people know the actor as the iconic Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation. He has appeared in other works, though, such as We’re The Millers and Fargo.

8 Vitruvius: Morgan Freeman

As he has one of the deepest voices in Hollywood, Morgan Freeman is perfect for a voice acting role. And he proves it when he plays the wise Vitruvius in The LEGO Movie. The blind Wizard is an important character in the story as he’s one of the only people to believe that Emmet is capable of saving the world.

Despite his excellent voice acting talents, Freeman is mostly known for his live-action work. He’s starred in some huge movies, including The Shawshank Redemption, Seven, and of course, Christoper Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.

7 Benny: Charlie Day

Benny’s main personality trait is that he is obsessed with creating spaceships. Throughout the film, he attempts to include one of the flying vehicles in almost every plan his fellow Master Builders devise.

It takes an energetic actor to voice the perpetually excited character, which is why it’s perfect that Charlie Day was given the role. He has had to give many lively performances when playing Charlie in It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. While the controversial comedy is his claim to fame, Day also has the likes of Pacific Rim, Horrible Bosses, and Monster’s University on his resume.

6 Bad/Good Cop: Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson has had an illustrious career, yet his role in The LEGO Movie will still go down as one of his most memorable. He plays a literally two-faced cop. When he’s showing his good side, the character is kind-hearted. But once his head spins around, he becomes evil and serves as one of the film’s main antagonists.

It’s no surprise that Neeson plays the two distinct sides of the character so well, as this is a performer who convincing starred in both Schindler’s List and Love Actually. That’s some range.

5 Unikitty: Alison Brie

The LEGO Movie is a wholesome adventure, and Unikitty is a big part of that. She’s a sweet unicorn and cat hybrid who loves rainbows and positivity. However, she also has a darker side that comes out when she loses her temper, which comes in handy towards the end of the film.

During both her sweet moments and angry ones, Unikitty’s vocals are provided by Alison Brie. Several different fandoms will recognize her face as she’s featured in popular shows like Community, Mad Men, and GLOW. Plus, her voice talents have been displayed in Bojack Horseman.

4 Lord Business: Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell actually appears in a live-action capacity in The LEGO Movie. Yet, he also voices the main villain inside the brick-building world, Lord Business. His ultimate evil plot is to freeze the entire LEGO universe.

There is a reason why Will Ferrell is one of the most well-known actors on Earth as he’s been in a lot of amazing movies. Perhaps his most famous character is Ron Burgundy from the Anchorman films. He’s starred in plenty of other classics like Step Brothers and Elf.

3 Batman: Will Arnett

There’s always a debate over which Batman portrayal is the best. And Will Arnett’s LEGO version deserves to be in contention. The Dark Knight is one of Emmet’s most useful allies throughout the movie. He uses his intelligence, technology, and combat prowess to help his fellow Master Builders save the day.

Besides reprising this role in a great solo movie, Will Arnett has had a wonderful career with many highlights. His most well-known roles are Bojack from Bojack Horseman and Gob from Arrested Development.

2 Wyldstyle: Elizabeth Banks

The Lego Movie The Faces Behind The Voices (& What Else Theyre Known For)

Wyldstyle, aka Lucy, is the main female hero in the film. As a truly accomplished Master Builder, she is far more capable in both building and fighting than Emmet. She spends the movie helping him achieve his destiny and save the world.

Voicing the badass is Elizabeth Banks, who has appeared in a litany of films during her career. The Hunger Games movies are her biggest projects. But she’s more known for her comedies such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Wet Hot American Summer.

1 Emmet: Chris Pratt

After a prophecy claims he’s the LEGO world’s future savior, Emmet’s life changes drastically. He suddenly becomes the man who has to lead the Master Builders to victory over Lord Business, even though he seems to lack the skills required.

Emmet gets his signature tones from Hollywood star Chris Pratt. These days the actor is known for his significant roles in the MCU and the Jurassic World movies. But before he went on to earn those iconic parts, Pratt made his name in Parks and Rec, where he showed the type of comedic chops that make Emmet such a witty protagonist.
