Following on from the massive success of The LEGO Movie, comes not one, but two LEGO spinoff movies this year. The LEGO Batman movie will capitalize on the success of Will Arnett’s Batman character, and his love of all things black or very dark gray, while The LEGO Ninjago Movie will arrive this fall, and take its lead from the exceptionally popular LEGO Ninjago product line.

To tie in with the release of The LEGO Batman Movie, the first full trailer for The LEGO Ninjago Movie has been released, which will also play in theaters in front of LEGO Batman. You can check out the trailer, above. A new poster for the movie has also been released and can be seen below:

With a screenplay by Hilary Winston, Bob Logan, and Paul Fisher, The LEGO Ninjago Movie is directed by Logan and Fisher, with Charlie Bean. The movie features the voice talents of Jackie Chan, as Sensei Wu, along with Olivia Munn, Dave Franco, and Justin Theroux as the main villain, Garmadon.

As the trailer details, Sensei Wu is trying to assemble a secret ninja force in order to protect his hometown from the dark forces of Garmadon. One of those ninjas is Lloyd (and the pronunciation of that is up to you), whose father just happens to be the big dark evil force that they’re all fighting against.

A Ninjago TV series has been around since 2011, and it’s enjoyable enough, especially for children, but The LEGO Ninjago Movie trailer is enough to establish that this is a whole new take on the franchise and, following in the steps of The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie, it is packed full of the humor that we’ve come to expect from LEGO now; that is to say, it’s humor that works on multiple levels for everyone to enjoy.

From the questionable pronunciation of Lloyd, to the reluctant ninja and the not so helpful figure trying to make Lloyd feel better about his parentage, the trailer is brilliantly laugh out loud funny, and surely a good sign of things to come from the movie itself. The fact that it’s all set against the background of Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ makes it even better, too.

If The LEGO Ninjago Movie is a success, it could well give rise to more Ninjago themed movies in the future, along with the second LEGO Movie, which is slated to arrive in 2019. Until then, though, LEGO are doing a fine job of proving that everything is indeed, awesome.
