9 Lifting the Mudhorn

This was a moment that made the fanbase collectively utter a whispered “wow!” The image of Grogu saving his potential assassin from getting absolutely wrecked by the Mudhorn was what confirmed the suspicions that the “Baby Yoda” had some connection to either the Force or the Jedi which he resembles.

What started as a running gag of Grogu trying to take the shiny knob from Razor Crest’s controls by using the Force became a rather endearing gesture between the two characters. Both characters are limited in their ways of verbal communication, Djarin being the strong and silent Mandalorian and Grogu being a literal baby, but this act of kindness says “I accept you” better than words alone.

7 Force Choking Kara Dune

Something that cute, cuddly, and wide-eyed is the last creature anyone would ever expect to have the ability to Force Choke someone. It’s shocking, it’s jarring, it’s something that made the viewers’ teeth hit the floor, but it’s also something they’ll never forget.

The Force Choke is a move reserved mainly for Sith Lords, but, in this case, it’s actually a protective and affectionate act. Grogu saw that his friend and adoptive father-figure was in trouble, and he did what he knew best would save him.

6 Taking Him On as a Foundling

For a character baptized in the waters of The Way, it took a lot of guts for Djarin to depart from the clan and essentially hand his little friend over to the Mandalorians’ mortal enemy, the Jedi. But, what the Armorer said was true: Grogu is a foundling, and the bond between them was nigh-unbreakable.

From the outset, Djarin doesn’t seem like the one to take on a youngling as his own, but the act of putting his own code in danger for his sake is truly a major step in his character arc. What else can be said other than “this is the way?”

5 Bringing Him to the Stadium

It’s not a pivotal moment in the plot—in fact, it’s more of a comical image than anything else—but watching Grogu float in his pod alongside Djarin on his way to a new contact is essentially the show’s version of take-your-kid-to-work day.

Joking aside, this act is a simple yet effective way of showing the Mandalorian’s repeated maxim, “wherever I go, he goes.” Pair that with Grogu closing his pod when things start to get hairy, and a better visual of their understanding rises to the surface.

4 Learning of Their Bond

Ahsoka Tano’s appearance in the narrative was something fans were dreaming of since the end of the first season, but it took a rather unexpected turn when it was learned Grogu could bond better with his adoptive father-figure than a Jedi master. During his time with Ahsoka, Jarin learned two things.

He learned his little friend’s actual name, and that his bond was stronger than that of his own kind. This was by far one of the most pivotal moments in their friendship, which led to the following.

3 Calling Him by Name

Watching the once strong and silent Mandalorian calling Grogu by name and working with him to practice his Force powers is essentially the equivalent of a dad playing catch with his son. It’s not so much the act of playing with Grogu that gets the spot, but the act of calling him by name that stays with the viewer.

Any sci-fi or fantasy fan knows just how much power there is in a name, and this scene confirms it with a soft yet strong bonding moment. It’s honestly a very intimate view of Djarin’s sweet side.

2 Flying With Him by Jetpack

If the previous entry was a taste of their bond, this is a full display of their accepted relationship. Seeing the Mandalorian flying with his jetpack with Grogu strapped to his chest is not only a sweet and happy moment that will always stand out to fans, it’s just plain fun.

Grogu’s ecstatic expression is absolutely adorable, there’s no question about that. But, in this incredible moment, one can’t help but imagine Djarin smiling ear-to-ear under that helmet, as well.

1 Djarin Removing His Helmet to Say Goodbye

For someone so adamant about keeping his face hidden, Djarin broke his code several times in the second season. In a sort of twist of Vader’s unmasking, the two seeing each other face to face for the first and possibly last time is a moment in the series that truly tugs on the heartstrings.

Exposing his face is always presented as the ultimate act of dishonor, but there was honestly no better way to say goodbye to Grogu than by seeing him through unmasked eyes.
