With new Addams Family content coming in the near future, it’s time to reflect on these weirdos and discuss their MBTI results.

Everyone’s favorite creepy, kooky, and altogether ooky family is coming back to the big screen this year, and the animated The Addams Family movie is loaded with an all-star cast. Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston certainly made us fall for the family in theaters the first time, but will Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, and the rest of the cast be able to match up the personalities to the characters we know and love so well?
We’ll find out just in time for Halloween, but, until then, we can analyze each member of our favorite ghoulish family’s character traits per their Myers–Briggs Type Indicator® personalities.
10 Gomez: ESTP
With his charming air and vibrant, vivacious spirit, it’s hard not to love Gomez Addams. Fans would never know that Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston didn’t get along on the set because they had such great chemistry together on screen, as did John Astin and Carolyn Jones on the TV show. Gomez is the Richard Branson of the show while his refined wife is a refined Mary I.
Gomez is The Entrepreneur, an ESTP. He’s as bold as they come and has no time to see the forest through the trees because he’s enjoying this day too much to plan that far ahead. He is one of the most sociable of the Addams and he never minces words, opting to say what he truly thinks.
9 Uncle Fester: ISTP
Uncle Fester may be pure comic relief, but he’s certainly not The Entertainer. As an ISTP, he is an introverted Virtuoso who is gifted with skill wielding all sorts of dastardly tools, torture equipment, and bomb-making. If you need arterial spray for the school play, he’s your guy.
Full of energy and enthusiasm, Fester enjoys spending time with a few close loved ones but gets uncomfortable around new people. He’s a pretty private guy. His mind is completely logic-based, so people can confuse him. This makes him come off as insensitive more often than not, but, luckily, his family understands and loves him just as he is.
8 Wednesday: INTJ
Wednesday Addams is an audience favorite, not only because she was wonderfully portrayed by Christina Ricci in the films, but also because she has her own feminist YouTube series, “Adult Wednesday Addams.” Wednesday is an INTJ, or The Architect. She always has a plan, and executing it is much more important than sparing people’s feelings.
Architects are brilliant and good at just about everything, but they’re also known to be rather cocky and judgmental as well as clueless in romance, as Wednesday was with Joel Glicker at camp. They are also known to hate structure, especially at places like Camp Chippewa.
7 Cousin Itt: ESTP
Debonair and worldly, Cousin Itt is a dashing member of the Addams family who not only steals the hearts of the ladies but apparently has a way with words, even though we need his family members to help translate them. He has the personality of The Entrepreneur, or an ESTP. This means that he lives in the moment and does things his way, even if it means courting a woman who is already married!
Like most Entrepreneurs, Cousin Itt is very sociable, which is off-putting to those unaccustomed to his unusual visage, or lack of one beneath all that hair. He’s direct and knows what he wants, pursuing it even when it means pushing boundaries. He’s all about the fun and being the life of the party, too.
6 Grandmama: ESFJ
The Addams Family matriarch, Grandmama isn’t your average grandmother. She’s still quite the extrovert, welcoming newcomers in her home and making sure they’re fed, but she’s not about to serve a standard meatloaf. A practical woman who has a strong sense of duty when it comes to her loved ones, Grandmama is also known for her knife-throwing and potions making abilities.
An ESFJ, or The Consul, Grandmama is great with connecting with other people, particularly if they’re mysterious and spooky. She is warm, but again, in the Addams way. As a fortune-teller, she’s always willing to give out advice, and, even though her lineage has been retconned alongside those of Morticia’s and Gomez’s, she always loves her family.
5 Lurch: ISFJ
There are a few introverts within the Addams household, and, while Lurch may be the largest member of the family, he’s also one of the shyest. As an ISFJ, Lurch is The Defender and as loyal as it gets. His whole life is serving the family and even though he’s pretty gentle, he won’t hesitate to intimidate anyone who thinks of doing his family wrong.
Lurch may not seem as enthusiastic as other ESFJs, but he’s definitely enthusiastic in his own way, rewarding his favorite people with his trademark smile. He’s super practical, and he sure isn’t changing for anybody, which are key traits of an ISFJ.
4 Pubert: ESFP
Pubert was originally supposed to be Pugsley’s name, but it was nixed since the showrunners thought it sounded too suggestive. Instead, they went with Pugsley, but, when Morticia and Gomez had a third child in Addams Family Values, they named him Pubert. As a baby, Pubert’s personality may not be fully realized quite yet, but so far he acts like an ESFP, or The Entertainer.
Pubert enacts bold, original plans to help save his family from the clutches of his ex-nanny, evil Aunt Debbie. Not only that, but he pulled out all the stops while doing it, looking pretty incredible while saving everyone. It’s just too bad that none of them got to see it, which would have made him happy.
3 Pugsley: ISTP
The little imp of the Addams family, Pugsley is the eldest of the two children in the classic TV show. An ISTP, he is The Virtuoso, partaking in risky behaviors as he carries out his ingenious macabre schemes. An inventive engineer, Pugsley has created everything from an anti-gravity gun to a homemade computer, which was pretty impressive in the 1960s.
Pugsley might be creative, but he’s practical, and he uses his creativity to devise solutions to problems that he sees in life. He’s also the more optimistic of the two children, believing that things will probably go his way rather than the gloom and doom that Wednesday often predicts.
2 Thing: ISFJ
With a quiet nature and a shy demeanor, Thing is an ISFJ, or The Defender. He loves his family more than anything and will do whatever it takes to support them, but he’s not about being in the limelight himself. Thing is great at planning and offering up ideas and enthusiastic support. Even though he’s literally a walking hand, he is often the most “normal” member of the family!
Thing is hardworking and loyal. In The Addams Family film, he even gets the best job of all the family members to support them, which is fitting since the rest of them are creepier than a severed hand!
1 Morticia: ISFJ
While she might crave screams over ice cream and tomb-side walks to strolls on the beach, Morticia Addams is no less loving or devoted than any other mother. As an ISFJ, or The Mediator, she is one of the most passionate MBTI personalities, which we see in her daily actions with her family, her husband in particular. She likes harmony and parents with an autonomous frame of mind, giving her children the freedom to explore.
Morticia is charitable and idealistic, willing to help others even though she also values her privacy and can be difficult to get to know. She’s always friendly to guests, but she is not the kind of person to seek out large parties on a regular basis.
