The Morning Show Why Cory Ellison’s Story To Save Hannah Is Not Bradley’s Secret

Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) of The Morning Show needs a big story to give the press, but will he give away Bradley’s (Reese Witherspoon) secret to save Hannah (Gugu Mbatha-Raw)? While the show wants viewers to think this is the case, it seems unlikely that Cory will go through with it. It seems more likely that the fast-talking, quick-thinking, forever-with-a-strategy character will pivot through the delicate situation as he has always done, offering a different story to distract the press – a story that may see the end of Cory as President of the UBA network.

In The Morning Show season 2, Bradley kisses Laura Peterson (Juliann Margulies) and the two begin a secret relationship. Meanwhile, Hannah Shoenfeld’s family is suing the network in a wrongful death suit made worse by the planned smear campaign of ex-UBA-executive Fred Micklen (Tom Irwin). Cory is caught between his duties as the new President of the Network and the weight of his conscience in the matter.

In the show’s most recent episode titled “Ghosts,” Cory finds himself out of options in his effort to save Hannah’s name. The only option left, he decides, is to feed the press a bigger, juicer story instead. In an act of misdirection, viewers are led to believe Cory will use the salacious story of Bradley’s secret romance – which he discovers and confirms to himself during the episode – to stave off the press. What’s more likely is that Cory will share a different story.

The most recent episode of The Morning Show season 2 reveals that it is not Bradley who got Cory the job as President of the Network as she believes. Fred orchestrated the transition himself, bestowing the job on Cory in exchange for his payout. This seems to haunt Cory, although it is unclear why, as he would not have been the one to pay Fred and he was obviously the next in line for the job, so Cory stepping up into the position only makes sense. Viewers, however, are made to believe that Cory’s job and reputation are on the line if the story leaks and that exile may await him like those who went before him: Fred Micklen and The Morning Show’s ex-host, predator Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell).

To complicate matters, Cory is upset by Bradley’s relationship with Laura. In a flashback, viewers see Bradley and Cory together after Cory has been fired from UBA (although, how this scene came to be is a mystery as Fred was the one to give Cory his job in exchange for the payoff, so Cory would have already known his job was secure). Bradley insinuates that Cory not working at the network may allow them to pursue a relationship, but, presumably, his new role of President of the Network puts that on hold.

Now The Morning Show viewers are led to believe that Cory would blast Bradley’s same-sex relationship through the press because he is either vindictive or jealous or both, but this turn would negate Cory’s previously-established character (some would say Cory Ellison is The Morning Show’s best character because of his unconventional thinking). It seems most likely that Cory will feed himself to the wolves by offering his corporate-corruption story to the press, thus saving Hannah’s name, and preserving Bradley’s private life.
