Jim was known for playing pranks on almost everyone in the office, but he always targeted Dwight because Jim knew he’d get the best overreaction from his uptight and professional co-worker. Dunder Mifflin Scranton was never an overly professional office environment, and that’s in part due to the over-the-top and distracting pranks, from those with Jell-O to those involving identity theft.

Although there were others that had their own pranks in The Office, Jim’s were the most memorable, and here are some of the best pranks that happened throughout the beloved show.

10 Stapler In Jell-O

The characters of Dunder Mifflin are introduced in the pilot episode, and Jim’s compulsion to prank is on full display as he steals Dwight’s stapler and encases it in Jell-O.

It’s easy, simple, effective, and it’s also not the first time he’s done this, as Dwight immediately gets upset and yells at Jim, asking why he keeps doing this to him. Michael is more tickled by the prank, and Jim also puts Micheal’s mug in Jell-O to end the show’s debut episode.

9 Jim Convincing Dwight A Thursday Was A Friday

The Office 10 Best Pranks Ranked

Jim typically puts a lot of work into planning out his pranks, but, sometimes, he takes advantage of the opportunities that present themselves, like in the season two “Performance Review” episode.

Dwight comes into the office on a Thursday but tells Jim that it’s a Friday. Jim doesn’t correct him and instead works to confirm in Dwight’s mind that it is a Friday and the next day is the weekend, making Dwight late for work the next day—which he eventually figures out, though it ruins his perfect on-time attendance record that he always brags about.

8 Jim And Dwight’s Snowball Fight

Jim and Dwight get into a snowball fight in “Classy Christmas” that begins harmless enough, but this prank quickly gets out of hand when Dwight gets revenge on Jim for throwing a snowball at him in the office.

Dwight attacks Jim later in the parking lot, relentlessly throwing snowballs at him until Jim is screaming for him to stop. Dwight doesn’t let up and continues to surprise attack Jim outside with snowballs, culminating in Jim having to fend off several snowmen out in the parking lot and try to figure out which one Dwight is presumably hiding in.

7 Jim’s Magic Legumes

The Dunder Mifflin office decides to put on a public garage sale in the season seven episode of the same name. Dwight goes into the day wanting to barter and take home the most valuable thing at the sale without having to spend any money.

Throughout the day, Jim teases him with a packet of “Professor Copperfield’s Miracle Legumes” that Jim manipulates Dwight with, piquing his interest enough for Dwight to trade the telescope he had bartered for in exchange for the beans. The best part of the prank is when, Dwight plants the beans outside of the office, Jim saunters in with already grown plants to swap them out to make Dwight truly believe that they were magic.

6 Vending Machine Prank

Jim decides to prank Dwight yet again in “Booze Cruise” when he takes everything from Dwight’s desk and puts it in the vending machine. Jim calmly shows Dwight where his belongings are by taking him to the vending machine where Pam buys an item for her own desk. Dwight is upset, of course, and Jim’s only response is to give him a bag full of nickels so he can slowly but surely get everything back.

5 Telephone Attack

Jim has had a few pranks that he’s attempted in the show which slowly build into a hilarious payoffs, like in season two’s “Conflict Resolution” episode. Jim slowly increases the weight of Dwight’s phone, making it slightly heavier every day.

Dwight gets used to the weight and then Jim takes all of the extra weight out of the phone in one day, making it much lighter and causing Dwight to smack himself in the face with his phone. The time taken in the slow build-up and hilarious end result makes this a great prank.

4 Pavlov’s Experiment With Mints

Jim plays another hilarious prank on Dwight that takes a while for him to plan, and the payoff is exquisite. In “Phyllis’ Wedding” Jim reveals that he’s been training Dwight in the exact way of Pavlov’s famous experiment for classical conditioning.

Jim would shut down his computer, making a particular noise, and then offer Dwight an Altoid. He did this for a while, and a montage is shown. It got to the point where when Jim shut down his computer, and, prompted by the noise, Dwight held out his hand for a mint without Jim asking if he wanted a mint. Jim plays it off asking what Dwight wants, and Dwight seems to be in a trance as he says he isn’t quite sure and also realizes he’s eaten too many mints.

The Office’s Christmas and holiday-themed episodes are fan-favorites, and “Moroccan Christmas” is no different. The cold open shows Dwight coming into the office after Jim has already gotten started on his work.

Dwight is surprised to see everything on his desk, including his desk and chair, has been gift wrapped. Dwight laughs and says that it must have taken Jim hours to do this and he’ll rip it up in minutes. Dwight sits down and throws his briefcase on the desk, and it all falls apart, leaving him baffled.

2 Asian Jim

The cold open of “Andy’s Ancestry” sees an Asian man, Steve (Randall Park), sitting at Jim’s desk and pretending he’s Jim. Dwight gets upset and knows that it’s not Jim but is appalled when he knows confidential information about Jim’s job at Dunder Mifflin.

As usual, Pam is in on the prank and comes over, kisses the fake Jim and says she got them a dinner reservation. Dwight tries to pick up a family photo to prove he’s not Jim, but it’s been swapped out. Pam reveals that Steve is their actor friend and Jim had a dentist appointment that morning.

1 Jim’s Identity Theft

Jim comes into the office in the “Product Recall” episode dressed differently than he is usually dressed, with his hair styled differently and glasses on his face. Dwight and the audience quickly realize Jim’s dressed like Dwight, and he even takes out identical figures and bobbleheads Dwight has on his desk.

Jim mimics Dwight by saying things like “bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica” and Dwight eventually figures out what he’s doing and says that “identity theft is not a joke,” quickly becoming frustrated. Jim mimics Dwight again by yelling for Michael, which Dwight also does a few seconds later. At the end of the episode, Dwight tries to get Jim back by dressing up like Jim by styling his hair like him and acting cool.
