The Office 10 Characters Who Left The Show Too Soon

Even with it being so long since its completion, The Office is still among the most popular comedies that people are obsessing about. Its humor was certainly elite, as it did such a marvelous job with not only its writing, but character selections. The workers at Dunder Mifflin certainly were able to create some truly unforgettable moments, but even with that, so much more could have been done.

There were a lot of characters who could have stayed around longer to help make this show become even better. This was especially the case when it came to later seasons as it was never the same after the biggest departure from it. Perhaps keeping more characters could have allowed the series to produce even better material for its audience. As fans of the series, it is hard not to wonder how it could have been different with them all.

10 Michael

This one certainly is obvious. It was immensely challenging for the series to lose Michael, as he, of course, was the heart of the series. The later seasons without him definitely had their strong points, but it was never able to replicate its prime without him.

Steve Carrell made the decision to leave to blossom his career, so one has to respect that. However, it would have been stellar to see him finish the series. Thankfully though, the audience was able to see him receive his happy ending.

9 Holly

Holly was such a marvelous side character in this series. She was the perfect match for Michael, which is why the two of them ending up together was one of the highest points in the entire show’s run.

It would have been even better if they had her and Michael’s marriage displayed for the rest of the series. Her character was not only immensely sweet, but she also was very funny in the process. It would have been great to see her become a member of the main cast.

8 Jan

Although Jan was a very destructive person, she was very entertaining during her time on the series. Her relationship with Michael was destined to fail from the very beginning, but it did provide a lot of memorable moments. The dinner scene is a prime example of this.

Jan was a very entertaining part of the show and honestly, her presence was missed as the series progressed. She was very flawed, but that provided the series with an array of different storylines that were very effective.

7 Roy

Although Pam was destined to end up with Jim, her relationship with Roy was interesting to follow. It was inevitable that they were going to fail, but Roy was not a bad character. In fact, he offered a nice change to the series as he was simply normal.

His temper definitely was his biggest flaw, but it was nice to see that he ended up finding happiness elsewhere. However, if the show had followed his story a bit more, they could have been an excellent addition to the series. He ultimately should have been more than just Pam’s ex.

6 Charles

Charles was a short-lived character in the series, but his impact was certainly felt. He briefly would be in charge of the branch, while memorably disliking Jim immensely because of his carefree personality.

He also was such an imposing figure in the series, which was not necessarily too common. Thus, the uniqueness of his character mixed with his serious humor was a great combination. It would have been cool to become a constant in the series.

5 Karen

Karen was another character who sadly was not going to last. Her relationship with Jim was doomed from the beginning, as he clearly still had deep feelings for Pam. Therefore, once their breakup had occurred, Karen was expendable.

This was honestly disappointing, as Karen did have all the tools to keep her spot on the show. She was hilarious, and in some ways, even seemed to be more similar to Jim than Pam. It would have been marvelous to see her become her own character, rather than just Jim’s brief love interest.

4 Gabe

Gabe’s role in the series would diminish rather significantly as it progressed. Sure, the entirety of the office was not a fan of him, as he was immensely strange and even off-putting to most. Even with this being so, he was absolutely hilarious.

His feud with Andy was also one of the funniest conflicts in the show, as he always tried to be intimidating, but failed to do so. He may not have been a favorite to many, but he definitely made things interesting when the show was in its rougher years.

3 Todd

The Office 10 Characters Who Left The Show Too Soon

Todd was one of the most hated characters in the entirety of the series. His sole purpose was to aggravate not only the characters of the series but also the audience. Thus, he succeeded in his job spectacularly and it would have been nice to see him continue to do so.

Every show needs its villain, and Todd honestly could have continued to be it in later seasons. His role never seemed to blossom into the main character either, so one could argue that he was underutilized during his tenure.

2 Jo

The Office 10 Characters Who Left The Show Too Soon

Jo was not necessarily a fan favorite, but she definitely had the potential to have a larger role in the series. In fact, she was supposed to be in control of the office, but then suddenly left without much explanation whatsoever.

Her character was also very tough, which was a nice component to the series. It was an entirely different approach to the leadership role, as Michael of course was more known for his jokes and silly behavior.

1 DeAngelo

DeAngelo was supposed to be the boss of the branch, but would sadly leave the series after falling to a coma from a basketball injury. Will Ferrell in a long-term role could have been marvelous for the series, as he of course is a comedy legend.

It was going to be immensely challenging for DeAngelo to replace Michael, but he could have been a fine addition had he been given more of a chance to shine. He definitely was interesting to watch, as he was still very funny.
