It’s no wonder that the stability of Dunder Mifflin as a company has always been a question, as the management isn’t exactly beyond reproach and there were 10 different managers over the course of just nine years. Even when Michael was steering the ship for the first seven years, other managers had to step in on several occasions for some major course corrections.

Every fan has their own favorite manager in The Office, whether it’s the self-proclaimed lizard king, Robert California, or even the lowkey elder statesman of the office, Creed Bratton. And given the sheer number of different managers that have come and gone and the fact that they all have extraordinarily different personalities, it has led to some fascinating hot takes.

10 Dwight Was A Good Manager Because He Fired Kevin

Using the example of when Dwight asks Kevin if he knows where paper comes from, and Kevin hilariously responds with “uh, the man tree puts its penis …” before being cut off, this Redditor claims that Dwight was a good manager. With Dwight being the smartest person in the room, and Kevin being the exact opposite, it only makes sense that Dwight would be the one to fire him.

And it worked out for the best, as Kevin was able to open up his own bar afterward. However, this one act doesn’t make Dwight a good manager, as when he was acting manager, he literally shot a gun in the office and temporarily deafened Andy.

9 Charles Minor Was Strict, But Fair

Most fans hate Charles Minor because he kept all of the colleagues from having fun, and even Jim lived in fear of him. But this user believes that the character wasn’t a killjoy, but a realistic manager with fair expectations.

The manager cut the cost of the ridiculous budgets of the party planning committee and called out Jim on his stupid pranks. Of all of the unpopular opinions, this one holds the most weight, as he was genuinely trying to improve Dunder Mifflin, but it came at the cost of ruining all of the fun characters.

8 Deangelo Vickers’ Episodes Are Good

The first of many managers to take the reigns after Michael Scott resigned was Deangelo Vickers, played by the very man who made Steve Carrell famous, Will Ferrell. It was as if it came full circle, as the two had starred together in the hit comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, but Ferrell’s character wasn’t totally well-received by fans, as he was just too similar to Michael.

However, there’s a minority of fans who love him, as he one-upped Carrell on making the office a tense environment. And to the users’ credit, there are some genius moments, such as the juggling show, and the power move that was having a barber come in to shave him in his office.

7 Andy Was An Amazing Manager

Andy was such a people pleaser, even more than Michael Scott, and that rubbed most fans the wrong way. As most episodes in season 8 were about Andy learning some kind of lesson, fans weren’t into it simply because it was so focused on that character. But there are some who think that Andy wasn’t just a great character, but a great manager too.

They claim that it was only when Nellie was introduced that his character arc was ruined. And in fairness, there are some instances in which Andy clearly is a manager for a reason, as he was the only one to ever confront Robert California, and he even got a tattoo to boost morale.

6 Michael Will Torpedo Others To Get What He Wants

In what is a smackdown of Michael Scott’s personality, one user goes into detail about how bad of a person he is. They argue that Michael will torpedo anyone to get what he wants, but this isn’t entirely true.

The Redditor uses the time when he and Jim were both trying to be managers as an example, but there arguably didn’t need to be two managers in the first place. It’s like what Jo Bennett said, there doesn’t need to be “two guys doing one job.” And there are other instances when Michael has shown how much adoration he has for his employees, and as much as he likes to toot his own horn, he will always go out of his way for his staff, unless it’s Toby.

5 Nellie Should Have Been The Manager After Michael Left

Before Nellie became a series regular midway through season 8, she had appeared briefly in season 7, as she was one of the interviewees fighting for Michael’s job. And as there were a lot of favorite candidates among fans, whether it was Ray Romano’s humdrum Merv Bronte or even David Brent himself, Nellie wasn’t one of them.

However, she does have a very small pool of fans who think she should have been the manager. As the character is played by British comedian Catherine Tate, they argue that her improv skills would have made her unique. But though it didn’t happen immediately, she did eventually get her turn in the manager’s seat.

4 Robert California Is Hilarious

With the revolving door of managers in full swing at this point, one of the most intriguing of them all was Robert California, as he wasn’t goofy, but in fact very serious. A select few love Robert and argue that it was him who carried season 8 when Andy was manager.

They claim that if the person existed in real life, he would be horrible to be around, but as a character on the show, he is hilarious to watch. The character is full of bizarre non-sequiturs and disturbing speeches, and the one thing for sure is that he definitely brought a different kind of energy to the show.

3 Kevin Is A Horrible Person

Before Dwight fired him, even Kevin had a brief stint as office manager, as hard as that may be to believe. Generally, Kevin is adored by fans, as he comes across so innocent, even when he’s saying the most vulgar things. But this user doesn’t believe Kevin should get away with the things he does, and that he’s actually a horrible person.

To be fair, he has blackmailed other characters in the office and he often says sexist remarks. But there are so many sad things that have happened to Kevin that have made audiences emphasize with him over the years, which might be why he gets away with the things that he does.

2 Jim Should Have Never Been Given A Promotion

In what is an almost essay-long post, one passionate Redditor thinks that Jim should never have been promoted to co-manager. From an objective point of view, the user details that Jim is a funny character and has the best relationship on the show, but doesn’t have any traits or skills that could possibly make him a good manager.

And the user has a point, as they state that Jim is ultimately the class clown, doesn’t show any leadership whenever there is an issue, and is a massive slacker, but that’s what makes him so funny.

1 Creed Should Have Been Manager For The Final Two Seasons

A group of Creed fans thinks that the criminal employee should have been the manager after Michael left. Fans got to see what Creed was like behind the wheel, quite literally, as he pulled up to the office in a convertible Porsche that said “NEW MGR” on it before throwing the keys over to an imaginary valet behind him.

Though there are times when Creed made more sense than anyone, there is no way he should be the manager for two whole years. He was manager for one episode, and while it was one of the funniest episodes of the whole series, as he was telling big clients that the company was going under and tries to create new acronyms, a whole two seasons of it might have been too much Creed.
