The love story between Angela and Dwight wasn’t as deep as Pam and Jim’s throughout The Office but it shouldn’t be ignored. These two have been a part of each other’s lives for years and found a way to be friends and coworkers when they broke up. They were far stronger as a duo than people give them credit for.

Over nine seasons, Dwight and Angela did everything they could to keep their relationship (and affair) a secret from the group. They took their jobs seriously and didn’t want their coworkers interfering, which was the right call considering how people reacted when Jim and Pam got together. The two finally got their happy ending by the series finale but it took nine long years to get there.

9 Season 1: Casual Coworkers

It’s not known when Dwight and Angela started their relationship but there was no sense of it in season 1. At this point, they were cordial coworkers trying to get through the workday. With only six episodes in the season, Dwight tried pursuing the purse girl in the season finale, which could mean he and Angela were not a couple at this point.

8 Season 2: Sensitive Emails And A Special Valentine’s Day

An inkling of a relationship occurred in ‘Email Survalience.’ When the office realized Michael had access to their emails, Angela and Dwight gave each other a knowing look and encouraged each other to delete sensitive emails…

From there on, Dwight and Angela were hot and heavy behind the scenes. They bought each other Valentine’s Day gifts, she secretly filmed his speech at a salesman convention, and they shared a quick kiss in ‘Casino Night.’

7 Season 3: Dwight Took The Fall For Their Relationship

In season 3’s ‘Traveling Salesman,’ Dwight took the fall for Angela when she forgot to mail the tax forms to corporate. He personally drove the forms there so that Angela wouldn’t get in trouble. It cost him his job for a few days but it proved his love for her. That same love shined through in ‘Benihana Christmas’ when Dwight emotionally supported Angela when her Christmas party fell through thanks to Pam and Karen.

6 Season 4: The Death Of A Cat And The End Of A Relationship

Dwight and Angela’s relationship wasn’t as transparent as Jim and Pam’s but by season 4, Angela unraveled and gave a little insight into their relationship. After asking Dwight to take care of her sick cat, he failed to do so, and Sprinkles died. He soon admitted that he killed the cat to put it out of its misery. That was the final straw for Angela and the couple broke up.

To make Dwight jealous, Angela began dating Andy. Dwight was in a bit of a depression for season 4 because he never wanted to terminate the relationship. But in a surprise twist, Angela and Dwight were caught having sex in the office at Toby’s goodbye party — mere minutes after she became engaged to Andy.

5 Season 5: The Start Of An Affair

In ‘Weight Loss,’ it was shown that Angela was still engaged to Andy while having an affair with Dwight. Every time Andy annoyed her, she would call Dwight to sleep with her in the warehouse. Eventually, Dwight grew tired of their game and gave Angela an ultimatum, but she chose Andy. After an argument with Phyllis occurred, Phyllis told the entire office that Angela was cheating on Andy with Dwight. The two men entered a duel over her but both realized it wasn’t worth it. From that moment on, both men were done with Angela’s games and she became single.

4 Season 6: The Baby Contract

Dwight and Angela’s relationship seemed done forever at the start of season 6 because Dwight became enamored with Pam’s cousin at her wedding. But after seeing all of the perks Jim got at work for being a new dad, Dwight began to want a child of his own. He propositioned Angela with a baby contract, to which they would sleep with each other a set number of times to try and conceive. His plan backfired, however, when he ran into Pam’s cousin again and realized he had feelings for her but was contractually obligated to Angela.

3 Season 7: The Start Of New Relationships

In season 7, Angela was taking the baby contract with Dwight seriously but Dwight wasn’t as invested as he once was. She finally had enough when she met Robert Lipton, a state senator, at Dwight’s Schrute Farms festival. The two became head over heels for each other and that was the end of Angela and Dwight… for now.

2 Season 8: Is Dwight The Father Of Philip?

At the start of season 8, Angela and Robert were newly married and she was pregnant. It wasn’t known if Dwight and Angela were still involved in a toxic affair but when she gave birth in ‘Jury Duty,’ Dwight began to wonder. Angela noted that her baby was premature but by the size of him Oscar assumed he was healthy, to term baby. Dwight knew after looking at little Philip that he was the dad, proving that he and Angela were still sleeping with each other while she was married. Angela denied that premise, of course, and by the season finale, Dwight took the baby’s diaper to see if he really was the father. When the doctor ran the tests, he admitted that Dwight was not the father.

1 Season 9: A Confession And A Wedding

The ninth and final season was huge for Dwight and Angela. In ‘Work Bus,’ Dwight appeared bothered that he wasn’t the father of Angela’s baby and began to wonder if he’d ever had kids. Meanwhile, Angela finds herself in the middle of a cheating scandal between her husband and coworker, Oscar. With Angela’s marriage on the outs, Dwight was a shoulder to cry on for Angela. In ‘The Farm’ the two become close again when she helps him with his sick aunt. In ‘Livin The Dream,’ Angela finally admits that she is in love with Dwight and has been the entire time. Although Dwight was dating a woman named Esther at the time, he dumped her and acted on his feelings by proposing to Angela. In the series finale, the two finally wed.
