The Purge series doesn’t feature too many ultra-intelligent characters, and, while there are a few, most of them are amazingly stupid.

In the world of The Purge, it is difficult not to be stupid. The conceit of the franchise surrounds the idea of one night during which citizens are allowed to commit crimes such as murder. For any film to succeed, there must be conflict, and there is no conflict if citizens stay in their houses all night.
Despite this, there are still some characters that rise above the rest. Some still find moments of intelligence on a night meant to victimize and terrorize. While some cannot help but choose the wrong decision, there are always those who go out of their way to help them.
10 Dumb: James Sandin
The creator of his neighborhood’s defense system, James Sandin, possessed technical smarts. He built his livelihood with two kids and a white picket fence, but his street smarts were lacking. When Purge Night commenced, he admitted that his system was safe, but was meant to look good more than anything else.
His privilege caused his family pain. He never thought for a moment that he would be targeted on Purge Night since he was one of the elite, and it cost him his life.
9 Smart: Dante Bishop
Dante was the thread connecting the first three Purge films in the franchise. He was only identified as The Bloody Stranger until The Purge: Election Year. He rose from a target on Purge Night to one of the leaders in the resistance against The New Founding Fathers.
His intelligence stemmed from his survival instincts. But, even when he survived, he used his experiences to save others and be an integral part of bringing down the system.
8 Dumb: Zoey Sandin
Like her father, Zoey’s crimes were due to ignorance. On Purge Night, she thought that it was a good idea to hang out with her boyfriend before their blast shields went down. This sealed her stupid fate, and she was rarely seen in the film from then on.
Her boyfriend Henry sneaked back into the house with the intent of killing her father so they could be together. After that, she sustained a concussion and was useless for the rest of the film.
7 Smart: Marcos
The Purge centered around how the elite took advantage of those less fortunate for profit. The Purge: Election Year had a record of casualties, but arcos was not one of them. He was the one that supported Senator Charlie Roan’s bid for the presidency.
He didn’t let his boss Joe defend the deli on his own and helped from the safety of the rooftop. In the end, he was the one left standing and was able to see the better world that he believed in.
6 Dumb: Shane
Who makes a road trip the day of The Purge? Shane and his wife, Liz. For some reason, their mission to tell his sister they were separating was so important that they drove on the highway hours before The Purge started.
For the rest of the night, Shane suffered for his stupidity. After their car broke down, they were trapped by a rich society that hunted people on Purge Night for sport. While his wife survived for the entirety of the film, Shane was killed.
5 Smart: Sergeant Leo Barnes
Revenge is not always the smartest decision, but the sergeant made a solid attempt. Introduced in The Purge: Anarchy, the sergeant attempted to kill the man that killed his son in a drunk driving accident. Leo attempted this in the smartest way he could, though his mercy for others on Purge Night careened him off his original intent.
The sergeant armed himself with weapons and an armored car. In The Purge: Election Year, he was instrumental in keeping Senator Charlie Roan safe from The New Founding Fathers.
4 Dumb: The Schoolgirl
The perspectives of the characters from The Purge are usually not those who are intent to purge. For richer or poorer, typically the protagonists, have no interest in purging. Those who decide to purge may be the stupidest of all.
Identified as a girl that just really wanted a candy bar, The Schoolgirl decided that this is worth purging over. A pillar in his community, Joe stopped The Schoolgirl from shoplifting. She decided to purge him later and was run over by Laney Rucker in her medical van.
3 Smart: Carmelo
Tragically underutilized in The Purge films, Carmelo was the leader of the faction against purging. Portrayed in about ten minutes of screen time by Michael Kenneth Williams, Carmelo was the ultimate figurehead in disrupting the status quo.
His lines about killing the rich were always on point and he rallied those to his side with his truth. The Purge is wrong, and we must tear it down by any means necessary.
2 Dumb: Isaiah
Isaiah was featured in the worst Purge movie to date, The First Purge. Isaiah was fueled by an event that, while terrifying, led him down his stupid path.
While dealing drugs, Isaiah was cut by a man identified only as Skeletor. Immediately Isaiah decided this was a crucial time to go out and kill him during the night of the first-ever Purge experiment, not considering the fact that he was only a teenager and Skeletor was an insane middle-aged man.
1 Smart: Charlie Sandin
The smartest of the Sandins, Charlie always knew how to survive. Even before Purge Night, Charlie had a nook that he would hide in and watch the house from. Using his creepy doll to spy on the house, this was perfectly utilized when his house was under attack.
Not only was Charlie a good person by letting in The Bloody Stranger to save his life, but he used his gifts to save the rest of his family when they were put in danger because of his father.
