The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is enjoying its very first season, and while the installment of the franchise is still young, that doesn’t mean that it is short on great storylines. The upper crust ladies who live, work, and play in Salt Lake City, Utah have no shortage of drama or complexities in their lives. They all have their hands full with marriage, kids, work, and of course gossip.
Fans can tell that the Salt Lake component of the popular Bravo series is bound to give viewers great story arcs for seasons to come, but until those seasons roll around, enjoy these top ten great storylines courtesy of Jen Shah, Mary, Meredith Marks, Lisa, Heather, and wonderfully wild Whitney.
10 Meredith And Seth’s Broken Marriage
Meredith Marks is a wall of perfection, so it seems. Then, in the second season of the first season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, viewers learn that Marks and her longtime husband Seth are going through a separation.
The facade of Meredith crumbles, and the other women start to question whether or not all is really roses and sunshine in the world of polished and refined Meredith Marks. Watching the Marks’s navigate a crossroads in their union became Meredith’s primary storyline in season one.
9 Mary’s Rise To Queen Of The Church
Mary Crosby is an outspoken woman of true conviction who serves as the leader of her congregation. How did Mary rise to become the headmistress of her followers?
Mary’s grandmother, Rosemary Redmon Cosby, was the founder of Faith Temple Pentecostal Church in Salt Lake City. When Rosemary passed, Mary was set in her place as the church leader and inheritor of the family businesses.
8 Whitney’s Unconventional, Blended Marriage
Whitney is the youngest Salt Lake City housewife, and one of her storylines has to do with her unconventional family structure. She isn’t the only housewife with a non-traditional union, looking at you, Mary Crosby, and she is nothing but proud of her family’s journey.
Whitney and her current husband (and former boss) were married to other people when they first met. They struck up an affair, Whitney became pregnant, and the two lovebirds decided to divorce and marry each other. They now have two elementary-aged kids together, and at age thirty-four, Whitney is now a step-grandmother through marriage.
7 Barlow’s “Working” Relationship
Lisa Barlow is a busy lady, and at one point, she compared herself to the great entrepreneur Warren Buffet. We hear her constantly refer to herself as The Queen of Sundance and discuss her brands and businesses’ popularity. Her children seem to become second to all working affairs, which concerns Lisa’s husband, who craves a slower pace and more face time with his busy wife.
Watching Lisa try and balance it all is a great storyline, and viewers can’t wait to see how this thread plays out in future episodes. Will the power couple work out the kinks or will they part ways?
6 Brooks Is Simply The Best
Fans are loving Brooks Mark’s storyline this season. Brooks is the first openly gay offspring of all of the housewives, and he is so fun to watch. Brooks has decided to take some take time off of his college studies as his family films their new show.
This mother is especially thrilled to have him home so that he can help her with her makeup. He also dives headfirst into the fashion world during season one of RHOSLC. Perhaps the best part of watching Brooks become a reality television star in his own right is watching his family and surrounding community embrace and love all that he is.
5 Jen’s Battle With Depression
Jen Shah is bold and boisterous, and everything she does is full of color, emotion, and fabulousness. Jen seems to have it all, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some dark skeletons lingering in her designer walk-in closet. When Shah lost her husband, she became very depressed.
Her husband’s contact travel schedule didn’t help matters, nor did his belief that all Jen needed was more prayer and faith. Her mental health woes nearly led to the demise of her marriage, but thankfully Jen was able to get the help that she needed and hop on the road to recovery.
4 Whitney’s Relationship With Her Father
Whitney is sweet and lovable, and her kindness and generosity extend to all around her, including her father. The first season of the Salt Lake City installment showcase Whitney’s support for her father, who is trying to recover from addiction and get his life back on track.
Her battle between indulgence and tough love tug at viewers’ heartstrings because everyone can clearly see that all Whitney wants for her dad is a healthy life.
3 Heather Gay Revinvents Herself
Heather Gay is such a great character on the show and is becoming a fast favorite for many reasons. She was married to Mormon royalty for over a decade, but when her marriage came to a screeching halt, the mother to three daughters had to reinvent herself. She took a sharp left from her former life and made no apologies for living the single woman’s life.
Gay is a strong, beautiful woman and owner of an extremely successful business. She is a true role model in so many ways.
2 Jen’s Beef With Mary
Every installment of The Real Housewives has at least one tedious relationship between women. The Salt Lake portion of the franchise has given us the beef between Jen Shah and Mary Crosby. The women do not like one another, and they make no effort to hide their resentment.
Mary claims that Jen smelled like a hospital, a scent offensive to Mary. Jen loses her mind over the observation and hits back, commenting on Mary’s marriage. Who knows where this storyline will go.
1 Mary Married Her Grandpa
Mary Cosby is a married mother of a teenage son. She sits on a throne, overlooking her many business ventures and a flock of believers. All of this was made possible because of her marriage. It is Mary’s marriage that has become the greatest and most eyebrow-raising storyline of the entire season.
Mary married her step-grandfather at the request of her grandmother. It’s not every day that a union such as this makes its way onto television, and let’s be honest: it is fascinating.
