The Secret Hero of Marvel Zombies Resurrection Has Arrived

One of the world’s greatest monster hunters has arrived, and he may be the key to victory in Marvel Zombies: Resurrection. The introduction to the series was released all the way back on Halloween of 2019 and was meant to be a one-shot story. Marvel intended on picking up where the story left off in May, however difficulties revolving around COVID-19 forced the mini-series to be pushed back. Now, almost one year after the initial release, Marvel Zombies: Resurrection is back on the shelves.

The original issue showed a collection of heroes from the X-Men, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four venturing out into space to answer a distress signal sent by Captain Marvel. Upon their arrival, the heroes find the corpse of Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, and venture inside the cosmic being to investigate what has happened. Things quickly get out of hand as the heroes discover a zombified Captain Marvel and a host of other zombified aliens are waiting for them. In just a few short minutes, every single one of the heroes is infected and they begin making their way toward Earth.

That’s where the story begins in Marvel Zombies: Resurrection #1 by Phillip K. Johnson and Leonard Kirk, which opens with the horde of super-powered zombies arriving on Earth. Spider-Man uses the Fantasticar to escape the chaos with siblings Franklin and Valeria Richards, as well as Mary Jane Watson. A zombified Human Torch attacks the survivors, and Spider-Man is thrown from the vehicle down to the streets below – at which point, the hero wakes up. An undetermined amount of time has passed between the opening panels and the current timeframe, as Peter Parker has formed a pack of survivors with the Richards children, Moonstone, and Forge. The rest of the story sees Spider-Man and crew fight off a slew of zombies, including Nightcrawler and Beast. By the end of the issue, a few members of the team are picked off and just as it seems like Spider-Man may join the list of casualties, a familiar face steps in to save the day: Blade.

Blade is an experienced vampire hunter who can cut down almost any opponent he encounters. His fighting skills are impressive, but he is also a Daywalker, meaning that he has almost every strength that goes with being a vampire, with none of the weaknesses. This means that he possesses superhuman stamina, strength, healing, and more. Thanks to his unique heritage, he is even immune to vampirism. Since Blade is so well versed in hunting monsters, it makes sense that he is one of the survivors of the zombie outbreak. While he may not be used to taking down this particular breed of undead creature, his years of experience certainly qualify him for this disastrous event. With Blade now fighting by his side, Spider-Man may stand a chance at surviving the horrors too.

Where the story will go is still a mystery, but Blade seems ready to take the fight to the Galactus Hive, where the whole mess started. Marvel Zombies: Resurrection’s next issue will hopefully showcase how Blade has been surviving for all this time. Whatever the reason, it’s certainly good news that the heroes have an ally like Blade.
