The Simpsons is set to spoof Netflix-style prestige crime dramas in an upcoming episode, and a new trailer has debuted to promote it. The animated series has remained a staple of the Fox lineup for over 30 years, telling hundreds of stories over the course of its run. It remains the longest-running primetime TV series of all time.

Throughout its run, The Simpsons has always aimed its sights at pop culture from a variety of eras. In fact, some of the most beloved episodes of the series are either slight riffs or wholesale spoofs of classic pop culture entities. Whether it’s the beloved Treehouse of Horror segment, “The Shinning,” or The Simpsons’ take on The Music Man with the legendary episode, “Marge vs. the Monorail,” the series has always found ways to put its spin on the familiar. Even as the show has progressed and evolved over the years, its ability to skewer pop culture has remained consistent.

Now, it looks like The Simpsons is set for one of its most intriguing parodies yet. In fact, Variety has shared an exclusive trailer and details on the upcoming episode, titled “A Serious Flanders.” Check out the trailer, which was shared on the LetsPlayNintendoITA YouTube channel, below.

“A Serious Flanders” seems to take clear inspiration from a wide range of franchises, TV shows, and creators to produce its own spin on the Netflix formula. Advertising itself like an episode of streaming television on the fictional “Simpflix” platform, “A Serious Flanders” sees Homer and Ned Flanders tangle with a ruthless debt collector (voiced by Succession actor Brian Cox) in a story that turns Springfield into a prestige drama, complete with flashbacks and surreal storytelling tropes. Along the way, the trailer features shots that feel ripped straight from the works of creators like The Coen Brothers (it has some serious Fargo vibes), David Fincher, and Quentin Tarantino. In addition to Brian Cox, the episode will feature guest appearances by Cristin Milioti, Timothy Olyphant, and Chris O’Dowd.

It makes quite a bit of sense for The Simpsons to dive this deep into Netflix parody with “A Serious Flanders.” The show has its aforementioned knack for spoofing trendy pop culture, and it was only a few short years ago that the series similarly lampooned the Netflix true-crime craze with a spoof of Making a Murderer. Now, “A Serious Flanders” will take it even further and give audiences a whole two-parter that dives even deeper into the concept. Part 1 of “A Serious Flanders” will air on Fox on November 7, with Part 2 following one week later on November 14.
