The first trailer for Apple TV+’s The Snoopy Show brings Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang back to TV in time for the comic’s 70th anniversary. Charles M. Schulz’s iconic comic strip has been a part of American cultural life since its inception back in 1950, running until his passing in 2000, and still appearing as reruns in newspapers worldwide today. The strip has been adapted into several films and animated specials, including A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, which are staples of the holiday season.

More recently, The Peanuts Movie was released in 2015 to coincide with the strip’s 65th anniversary, causing initial consternation due to the 3D animation used to render the characters instead of the traditional hand-drawn animation style used previously. But the movie ended up being well-received due to its faithful adherence to the spirit of Schulz’s comic strip and its family-friendly tone. Apple TV+ is now responsible for putting the characters on screen, debuting the service’s first TV show based in the Peanuts universe, Snoopy in Space, at launch last year.

Now, the trailer for a more traditional Peanuts show, The Snoopy Show, gives an insight into the next chapter for Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and the rest of the gang. The trailer focuses on Snoopy, calling him “The Most Extraordinary Beagle In The World,” but also shows off the rest of the crew, with Charlie, Woodstock, Linus, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, and Marcy all appearing. The footage shows Snoopy following several fantasies, including riding a chopper, taking part in an Old West duel, and climbing snowy mountains, among others. You can watch the full trailer below:

The show uses traditional hand-drawn animation and certainly seems to echo the tone of the original. Snoopy’s flights of fantasy are a hallmark of Peanuts, having first been introduced in the comic strip, and look to be the focus of the episodes here, and they seem to reference several pop culture touchpoints. Hopefully, the tone of the show stays fun and light, and the characters are introduced to a new generation while also satisfying older fans.

The show is scheduled to debut in February 2021 and is another original that AppleTV+ can add to its so far meager offerings. The tech giant’s streaming service has struggled to gain subscribers due to its relative lack of original content, but it is slowly adding more, launching shows like Ewan McGregor’s Long Way Up in recent weeks. Perhaps The Snoopy Show will convince more subscribers to sign up, given the other family-friendly content available on the service.
