Mafia life is dangerous and many characters in The Sopranos paid with their lives. But some, like Tony and Carmela, actually achieved some desires.

In the world of organized crime, everyone is ambitious. While normal people hope and pray for the best, gangsters often take aggressive action to get what they want. Their family, friends, and associates are known to mirror these mannerisms, too. Such was the case in The Sopranos.

Everyone wanted something but not everyone got what they wanted. Vito had dreams of becoming boss someday but was brutally murdered instead; Christopher wanted to live happily ever after with Adriana but she was killed for being an informant. Luckily, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for everyone. Some characters managed to achieve their dream in this gripping drama.

10 Tony Soprano: To Never Set Foot In A Prison

In Season 1, Tony was more than happy to let Junior become the official boss while he served as street boss. This is because he wanted to avoid scrutiny by the FBI and stay out of jail. Luckily for Tony, this worked as Junior ended up being imprisoned and later placed under house arrest.

Even though the FBI did trail to nail Tony by using informants and bugging his house, the man was too smart to make any mistakes. By the end of the series, he had never even set foot in a courtroom.

9 Carmela: To Have A Happy Marriage

Carmela was never concerned about her husband being a criminal. The only thing that bothered her was Tony’s extramarital affairs. Even though he frequently spoiled her by taking her for dinners at fancy restaurants and buying her expensive gifts, the only thing Carmela desired was a wholesome marriage.

The two had a nasty separation after one of Tony’s heartbroken mistresses called the house and exposed him but that was just the storm before the sunshine. Tony and Carmela worked things out and became even closer, their bond fortified after Tony was shot by Junior.

8 Corrado “Junior” Soprano: To Be Free

Junior was arrested on federal racketeering charges at around the same time that his henchmen Mikey Palmice and Chucky Signore were whacked. He ended up having plenty of legal problems after that. After being released from prison, Junior was placed under house arrest, making him unable to even visit his favorite restaurants.

In order to get out of the house, Junior had to make requests to attend funerals of people he didn’t even know. He finally got his freedom after he shot and injured Tony in the final season. His lawyer argued that he was unable to stand trial due to his dementia, hence the FBI dropped all charges. Though ailing, he was finally a free man.

7 Dr. Jennifer Melfi: To Improve Tony’s Health And Make Him Have A Better Perception Of Life

In Season 1, Tony Soprano was referred to Dr. Melfi, a psychiatrist, after having a panic attack at a barbecue. Melfi established that the attacks didn’t really stem from a preexisting medical condition but from Tony’s lifestyle and thoughts.

For a couple of years, Tony saw Melfi consistently and his panic attacks eventually ceased. He also became a much better man as he was able to control his anger even when threatened by fellow mob bosses like Johnny Sack and Phil Leotardo. Though Melfi eventually cut ties with Tony, she had achieved her objective.

6 Meadow: To Have A Great Career

Unlike her brother AJ, Meadow was very hard-working and responsible. Her goal was to go to college and eventually have a great career. That’s exactly what happened. She attended Columbia University where she consistently got high grades. She also volunteered regularly at the South Bronx Law Center.

After graduation, Meadow studied for medical school, hoping to become a pediatrician, but had a change of heart when she saw how Italian-Americans were being mistreated. She thus became a lawyer so that she could fight for the rights of minority groups.

5 Agent Dwight Harris: To Take Down The Heads Of The Families

Harris was the Supervisor Agent-in-Charge at the FBI’s Newark Organized Crime Division Task Force. He was very keen on taking down the mob, going as far as turning several mobsters into informants and bugging Tony’s house. After getting reassigned to counter-terrorism, Harris befriended Tony.

The agent asked Tony to let him know in case he had any terrorist-related activity from his many associates. Tony did just that and Harris gave him information about Phil Leotardo’s plot to kill him. After Tony ordered a hit on Leotardo, Harris was seen exclaiming with joy, implying that he had pitted the two mob bosses against each other and they were going to eliminate each other for him.

4 AJ Sopranos: To Have A Purpose In Life

From the start, AJ Soprano had no direction in life. He even dreamt about going to Havard yet his grades were poor. His social life wasn’t good either as he found it hard to even have a stable relationship. When his woes became too much, he attempted suicide. Luckily, he was saved by his father.

In the final episode, life took a turn for the better when Tony bought him a new BMW M3 and got him a job working for Little Carmine’s film production company. AJ was finally in a happy relationship too, something which alleviated his depression.

3 Silvio Dante: To Get Rid Of All Traitors

No one was more loyal to the DiMeo crime family than Silvio. As the consigliere, he made sure the organization functioned at full capacity and got rid of all traitors. He personally killed FBI informants like Big Pussy and Adriana.

In Season 6, Silvio strangled the last traitor Burt Gervasi to death after he suggested a coup against Tony. Gervasi had been recruited by the Lupertazzi Crime Family to destabilize Tony’s crew. Even though Silvio was shot by Leotardo’s men and left in a coma, he had achieved his goal.

2 Paulie: To Get A Bigger Role And Earn More

An effective executioner, Paulie had the highest kill count in the series. However, he wasn’t satisfied with his position. He wanted more money. At some point, he even considered joining the New York crew.

He finally got his wishes as the series came to a close. Tony asked him to take over the Aprile/Cifaretto/Vito/Gervasi crew which normally had the highest earnings thanks to labor union and gambling connections.

1 Artie: To See His Business Thriving And Deal With His Personal Issues

Artie was portrayed as a self-loathing man who had plenty of misfortunes in both his personal and professional lives. His marriage was in murky waters while his Vesuvio restaurant went through several challenges such as being torched, being outperformed by Da Giovanni’s, and being blacklisted by American Express due to mob-related fraud.

Understandably, Artie desperately wanted things to get better. In the final season, things started looking up. He got back together with his wife while Nuovo Vesuvio became so popular that New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini even visited.
