The Ultimate Quentin Tarantino Gift Guide

Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a ‘60s-set crime epic with an ensemble of A-listers in its cast and the Manson murders as a backdrop, will be hitting theaters later this year.

So, after four years bereft of QT’s cinematic works since 2015’s The Hateful Eight, his fans will finally have some new material to chomp on. After all, there are few directors with a fan base as large and as dedicated as Tarantino’s. Even if you’re not a fan, you’re bound to know one – and they might have a birthday or other event coming up. So, without further ado, here is The Ultimate Tarantino Gift Guide.

In the end credits of Kill Bill, the screenplay is credited to Quentin Tarantino alone, but the character, Beatrix “the Bride” Kiddo, is credited to both Tarantino and the actress who played her, Uma Thurman.

According to Thurman, she conceived the character with Tarantino on the set of Pulp Fiction. The Bride has since become one of the most iconic characters in movie history, especially in terms of female action heroes – in those terms, she ranks alongside the true greats, like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor. On this hoodie, she can be seen in her iconographic yellow jumpsuit from Vol. 1’s climactic battle.

8 Natural Born Killers: Unrated Director’s Cut

Oliver Stone directed Natural Born Killers from a screenplay that was initially written by a young, struggling Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino has said that Stone took his script in a different direction than he would have if he’d been allowed to direct it.

But still, there is a lot to enjoy in the movie. The unique Tarantino flair can be felt in the dialogue and the way the characters are, and it’s very inventively crafted. One scene presents domestic abuse and incest in the style of a multi-cam family sitcom with a laughter track. Its violence was controversial, but it’s a brilliant movie – and the director’s cut is the best version of it.

There are a number of classic moments and quotes in Pulp Fiction. One of them is the climactic diner scene, which brings us full circle and reveals that Jules and Vincent were actually present for the seemingly irrelevant diner scene the movie opened with (that turned out to actually be the final scene).

As Tim Roth’s Pumpkin goes around the diner, taking everyone’s wallets, we see Jules’ wallet, which says: “Bad Mother F****r.” Apparently, in real life, it was Tarantino’s own wallet. Now, you can have one of your own. This one is officially licensed by Miramax, too, so it’s authentic merchandise from the same company that gave us the movie in the first place.

6 Funko Pop Movies: Hateful Eight – Marquis Warren Action Figure

Samuel L. Jackson has played a lot of great roles in Quentin Tarantino’s movies, but his most recent one – the part of Major Marquis Warren, a former Union soldier who became infamous among the Confederacy for his bloodlust – might be the most interesting yet.

The character was deemed so interesting that Funko based this Pop figure on him. He has a bunch of memorable scenes, like the flashback in which he takes a Confederate soldier out into the snow and gives him a creative way to stay warm, and memorable lines, like when he calls Daisy Domergue a “diabolical b***h!” in super slow motion.

Quentin Tarantino has a habit of casting himself in supporting roles in his movies. In his sophomore directorial effort, Pulp Fiction, he plays Jimmie Dimmick, the guy whose garage Jules and Vincent use to hide their blood-spattered car after the latter actually shoots Marvin in the face.

During the scene, Jimmie gives the guys each a cup of coffee and Jules says, “This is some serious gourmet s**t!” But Jimmie simply replies, “I’m the one who buys it. I know how good it is.” Any Tarantino fan who enjoys drinking coffee, tea, cocoa, or any other hot beverage will want this mug in their cabinet.

4 The Hateful Eight – Soundtrack Album

When he made his most recent spaghetti western The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino finally managed to convince the great Ennio Morricone – his (and a lot of moviegoers’) favorite composer of all time – to write the score. The tense atmosphere and claustrophobic entrapment of the movie is translated perfectly into music by Morricone’s interesting score.

The composer claimed he didn’t want to give Tarantino the same kind of music he used to give Sergio Leone for his spaghetti westerns – he wanted to veer into newer, more modern territory with this score. The score won an Oscar and a Golden Globe, deservingly. The soundtrack album also includes pop hits by the likes of Roy Orbison and the White Stripes, which also appear in the movie.

3 Reservoir Dogs: The Screenplay

Audiences didn’t quite know what to make of Quentin Tarantino’s style when he burst onto the scene in 1992 to reinvent independent cinema with his slick, gritty, violent crime thriller Reservoir Dogs.

Now, the script behind the movie is available in paperback. It’s the perfect gift for any aspiring screenwriter or indie filmmaker – or just a Tarantino fan who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the plot, characters, and inner workings of the first feature film he ever directed. Overnight, Tarantino became one of the hottest directors in Hollywood and remains one to this day – and it all started with this script.

2 Django Unchained Movie Poster

Before Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino had incorporated the filmmaking techniques of the spaghetti western to all of his movies, no matter what genre they were. He even made a World War II movie in the style of a spaghetti western.

But Django was the first time he really dived into his favorite genre, and the result was one of his best movies. This poster will arrive rolled up in a cardboard tube, which will keep it from getting damaged or creased during the shipping process. It also has a glossy finish to give it the kind of glimmer that the movie posters have on the walls of an actual theater.

1 Tarantino XX: 8-Film Collection

Quentin Tarantino has announced that he will retire after making ten films, and he’s made eight so far. Six of those movies are collected in this awesome Blu-ray box set: his indie debut Reservoir Dogs, his sophomore crime caper Pulp Fiction, his blaxploitation homage (and Elmore Leonard adaptation) Jackie Brown, his grindhouse masterwork Kill Bill (both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2), his turbo-charged slasher Death Proof, and his WWII epic Inglourious Basterds.

In addition to those movies is True Romance, which was directed by Tony Scott, but written by Quentin Tarantino – and it feels very much like a Tarantino movie, due to Scott’s respect for the writer’s vision. The set also contains five hours of exclusive bonus footage.
