Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, is the de facto male lead of The Vampire Diaries. In the first season, Stefan was an integral character and essentially the main character on the series, especially as the show was meant to be from his own diaries.

He remained a male lead throughout but his role did decrease somewhat over time. Still, the brooding vampire is a fan-favorite and it’s not hard to see why, thanks to his kind heart and chiseled good looks. Here are some fun facts about Stefan that even diehard fans might not know.

10 Stefan is a fan of I Love Lucy

Back in the first season of the series when Stefan and Elena were still getting to know one another, Stefan discussed some of his interests.

Despite being a vampire, he still has pretty normal taste for a man, if a little old-fashioned. He revealed that he is a huge fan of I Love Lucy and thinks it’s one of the best American sitcoms of all time. He specifically names “The Loving Cup” as his favorite episode.

9 Stefan has a rose tattoo

This is easy to miss if you’re not paying close attention but Stefan Salvatore actually does have a tattoo. He doesn’t seem like the type to get one but the fact that it’s a large rose makes it a little more sensible for the character.

He has a large rose tattoo on his shoulder. The reason for it is pretty simple. Paul Wesley has a large rose tattoo and apparently the team at The Vampire Diaries decided not to cover it up, therefore Stefan also has a tattoo.

8 Stefan’s astrological sign is Scorpio

Stefan’s birthday is at the beginning of November which makes his astrological sign Scorpio. Typically, Scorpios are known for being somewhat aggressive and jaded, which doesn’t entirely fit Stefan’s persona but he does have those attributes.

One of the other things about Scorpios is that they’re known for being somewhat mysterious. That is certainly fitting of the brooding vampire. He always has an air of mystique about him.

7 Stefan is a big Scorcese fan

From the same episode where Stefan revealed his thoughts about I Love Lucy, he also talks about the iconic director Martin Scorcese. Stefan’s favorite film by the director is Taxi Driver.

He says that he could rewatch the movie over and over again. It’s interesting to think about what Stefan’s favorite film by the director might be nowadays. What would he think about The Irishman, for example?

6 Stefan is a little bit of a hoarder

Stefan is a very sentimental guy and because of that, he is prone to hanging on to things from his past. Damon has previously teased him about this by calling him a packrat.

While he’s nowhere near as bad as some of the people you see on shows like TLC’s Hoarders, he definitely does his fair share of collecting items he might never use or need again. Immortal people certainly have the potential to stack a mountain of useless items in their houses given there’s no time limit for them.

5 Basically every girl on the show was attracted to Stefan at one point

If you think about it, even though Damon was considered the “ladies man,” it’s Stefan that most women were attracted to, although to be fair, many of them were attracted to Damon as well. However, usually, anything that happened with Damon was a passing fling while women genuinely got hung up on Stefan. Rebekah, Katherine, Elena, and Caroline all come to mind for starters.

But even some of the other girls were at least shown to be attracted to him. It’s hard to find even one that had zero interest. Even Bonnie admitted he was attractive on several occasions and many people would have you believe that even Klaus Mikaelson had a romantic interest in Stefan.

4 Stefan has a thing for blondes

Again, this is something that anyone could notice but you’d have to stop and actually think about it. Look at Stefan’s track record he has Rebekah Mikaelson, Caroline Forbes, and even his best friend Lexi Branson is blonde.

It’s difficult to not sense a pattern there. Even in the books, Katherine and Elena were blonde. That doesn’t translate on the show but it adds to the overall idea that Stefan likes blonde women.

3 Stefan shares one thing with Elena that Damon doesn’t

To be fair, Stefan and Elena probably share many things in common that Elena will never have with Damon. However, one of the most notable things is that Stefan has a line of doppelgangers just like Elena does.

As far as we know, Damon does not have any doppelgangers to speak of. Stefan has also been impersonated by his doppelganger, Silas, on several occasions. But he has more than one. Another one of his doppelgangers featured on the show is a normal paramedic named Tom.

2 Stefan loves The Great Gatsby

Now to return to the conversation that took place in Season 1, Episode 5, it was rife with a lot of fun facts about Stefan that never get brought up again. If you’re watching the show, it’s an easy conversation to miss and forget about. However, Stefan does also discuss his love of F. Scott Fitzgerald, particularly his novel The Great Gatsby.

Stefan doesn’t specify if he enjoys the movie versions but we know he loves the book. It’s easy to see why since Stefan is something of a romantic himself and Fitzgerald’s novels contain a lot of pining and romantic storylines. He’s also fond of Shakespeare.

1 Damon and Elena named their daughter after him

This is a tidbit you would only know if you continued the Vampire Diaries universe by tuning into the latest spin-off series Legacies. It’s mentioned in passing on the show that Damon and Elena have at least one child, a daughter named Stephanie.

We can guess that the name Stephanie is playing on Stefan’s name since Stefan still meant a tremendous amount to both Damon and Elena, even after he passed away. The library at the Salvatore Boarding School is also named after him.
