The Walking Dead has already been confirmed to be ending after its upcoming two-part 11th season, which will air in 2021 and 2022. And while fans have been theorizing about how the show will end for years, the news of an official end date has sparked a whole new set of theories.

Mainly, fans are trying to guess which characters will survive and which won’t make it. It’s already confirmed that Daryl and Carol will live since they will star in a spin-off series that has already generated plenty of questions and fan theories in its own right. But everyone else is fair game.

Will Ezekiel survive his battle with cancer? Will Judith enjoy that flash-forward scene Carl had in the comics? And Will Rick come back?

10 Daryl/Aaron Shoot Gabriel

One Reddit thread posits two potential storylines, both based on actual events from the comics. While the comic book scene involved characters who’ve already left the show like Dwight and Rick, along with Yumiko, one Reddit user predicts that Daryl will end up shooting Gabriel.

Another user, however, chimes in with their thoughts that it might actually be Aaron and Gabriel in this scene, with Aaron taking down his once friend who had gone too far to the dark side. That could mean that game of chicken scene from an earlier episode between the two could be yet another example of great foreshadowing on The Walking Dead.

9 Rosita And Baby Coco Will Die

The series has already shown how Gabriel’s morality is declining. So, many fans suspect that he won’t make it to the end alive. But the event that will push him over the edge and make him beyond redemption is suspected to be the death of Rosita and his adopted child Coco.

One Redditor is unsure whether the show will “go down that road,” but believes it might be the catalyst that spells the end of Gabriel. It would be a surprising and unfortunate death given that Rosita is among the most capable fighters on The Walking Dead.

8 Scott Is A “Red Shirt”

In the same conversation thread, another Redditor suggests that it will be the “red shirts” who meet their end on the season, including characters like Scott (red shirts are a reference to Star Trek, as the characters wearing red shirts always seemed to be killed off). A resident of Alexandria, Scott isn’t a major character but he has been around for several seasons.

Scott was last seen shooting Whisperers as they descended onto the community, and he managed to escape with others to the hospital. He is confirmed to be appearing in season 11, but how many episodes he’ll last remains unknown.

7 Cyndie Will Live

A Redditor who wonders where Cyndie and the crew have been suspects that season 11 might involve more storylines around Cyndie. The character, who became the leader of Oceanside after her grandmother’s death, has proven herself a strong and fierce fighter.

The idea is that, without Alexandria, while some of the crew is likely already headed to the Commonwealth community (or rather, already arrived there), the others might end up looking for safe haven somewhere. And that somewhere could be Oceanside.

6 Alexandria Will Be Attacked By Reapers

Alexandria isn’t a person but rather a place, one of many communities where survivors have congregated. One Reddit theory predicts that Alexandria itself will be reduced to dust, likely following an attack by the Reapers, the newest villains on The Walking Dead.

The theory goes on to predict that it will be members of the Commonwealth who come and save the residents, then take them in to expand the Commonwealth community and make it their new home. The theorist goes on to suggest that the end of the series will show the survivors rebuilding both Alexandria and Hilltop, little by little, to create a future with multiple communities that all live together in harmony.

5 Negan Will Die

One of the most anticipated rivalries for season 11 is the one between Maggie and Negan, and many fans believe that Negan will meet his demise before the show is over. One Redditor notes what many other theories have suggested: that Maggie will kill Negan.

But they also present another interesting scenario: that Negan sacrifices himself for the greater good and to save the community or even, as one theory goes, dies protecting Maggie specifically. It would mark the ultimate redemption for the character who, fans finally learned in season 10, has one of the most tragic backstories of all the characters.

4 The Return Of Rick

So many fans and theorists have guessed that Rick might return for the final season of The Walking Dead. It is confirmed that he is alive and will star in the spin-off movies, which will pick up after he was swept away by Jadis to safety.

One Redditor thinks that the movies will come out while the final season is airing and the storyline involving Rick will cross over between the two. More specifically, they believe that Rick will appear in the second half of the season and will team up with his old friends (and some new ones) at the Commonwealth to fight the CRM and take them down. It would be an interesting direction for the show that could even tie together characters and stories from other spin-off series, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

3 Hershel Jr. Kills Negan

Another theory relating to Negan dying, this one suggests that it isn’t Maggie who does the deed but rather Hershel Rhee. Negan gives some type of speech, goes the theory on Reddit, and somehow, during his words, Hershel Jr. figures out exactly what happened to his father and who killed him.

In an understandable fit of rage, Hershel Jr. kills Negan to avenge the death of the father he never got to meet. In a sad twist, just before Hershel does the deed, Maggie finally realizes that Negan truly had changed and forgives him.

2 Judith Will Live

This Redditor not only believes that Judith – one of the fan-favorite child characters on The Walking Dead – will live through to the end but that she will get the storyline that Carl had in the comics. It involved a 15+ year time jump wherein Carl was now an adult who was married with a child.

Except in this scenario, it will be Judith who is married with a husband and child. The series will end with Judith reading a bedtime story to her child and the story is about Rick’s life.

1 King Ezekiel Will Be Treated And Live…For A Time

Of all the main characters, King Ezekiel appears to be the least likely to survive given that he already revealed a massive tumor in his neck that pointed to cancer. Without treatment and chemotherapy, he was already living on borrowed time.

One Redditor thinks that Ezekiel will receive treatment from the Commonwealth that might extend his time on the show for a short period. However, it will be temporary and he is likely to die a very emotional death that will deeply affect everyone, particularly Carol and Jerry.
