The various actors that appear in Amazon’s The Wheel of Time have appeared in a wide variety of other movies and TV series in their careers.

The Amazon series The Wheel of Time has made quite a splash in the world of television, proving that there is still quite a lot of magic left in the fantasy genre. Focusing as it does on a group of young people taken from their village by a powerful magic-wielder, it has many of the trappings one would expect.

However, as each episode unfolds, the viewer learns more and more about these fascinating characters, and so it’s worth taking a look at the people chosen to play them, many of whom have fascinating roles in their backgrounds.

10 Rosamund Pike: Gone Girl (2014)

Of all the cast, Rosamund Pike is arguably the most well-known, given her appearance in the movie Gone Girl. Arguably one of David Fincher’s best movies, it focuses on a husband and wife (played by Ben Affleck and Pike), the latter of whom frames the former for her disappearance and presumed murder. It’s a tightly woven and chilling movie, and Pike delivers a searing performance as Amy Dunne was widely applauded by critics; she brings much of that energy to bear as Moiraine, a woman driven to fulfill her mission to find the Dragon Reborn.

9 Daniel Henney: Criminal Minds (2005-2020)

Criminal Minds is one of the best procedurals in the history of television, as can be attested by the fact that it lasted for so many seasons. Even though Daniel Henney only joined the series late in its run, he managed to make quite an impression as the character Matt Simmoms, a skilled profiler with a great deal of experience but who is steadfastly committed to his family. Lan, similarly, is a man with a complex and dangerous history, and he displays the same commitment to Moiraine and her safety as Matt does to his family.

8 Zoë Robins: Power Rangers Ninja Steel (2017-2018)

Nynaeve is one of The Wheel of Time’s best characters, in part because she straddles two worlds: as an outsider who was raised in the Two Rivers and considers it her home. What’s more, she shows that she has a tremendous amount of power, and more than a bit of a stubborn streak.

Zoë Robbins hasn’t been in very many screen appearances, but viewers may recognize her from Power Rangers Ninja Steel, in which she played the character of Hayley Foster, the White Ninja Steel Ranger.

7 Barney Harris: Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (2016)

Even though The Wheel of Time is only in its first season, the character of Mat has already made quite an impression, and a great deal of that is due to the intensity of Barney Harris’ performance. He imbues Mat with a great deal of complexity, and his apparent descent into madness makes for riveting viewing. Like Robins, he doesn’t have an extensive filmography, but viewers may recognize him from his role as a soldier in the war movie Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

6 Josha Stradowski: High Flyers (2020)

Rand, as one of the four young people possibly destined to save the world–or destroy it–is one of the most important characters in the series. Though he isn’t particularly well-known to American audiences, he is known for having appeared in the series High Flyers, a Dutch production focusing on the personal and professional growth of a group of young people setting out to become part of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. He’s thus in a prime position to explore a young man coming into his own.

5 Marcus Rutherford: Obey (2018)

Along with Rand and Mat, Perrin is one of the series’ most important characters, and he also buries a heavy burden, having accidentally committed a terrible act in the first episode. Marcus Rutherford imbues this character with a lot of depth and heart, which makes sense, given his appearance in the movie Obey from 2018, in which he plays a troubled young man abandoned by both his mother and the woman he loves. That blend of sensitivity and barely constrained violence have already become key elements of his personality.

4 Álvaro Morte: Money Heist (2017-2021)

Logain is arguably one of the most tragic characters to have appeared in The Wheel of Time, because he is tormented by madness and believes himself to be the Dragon Reborn. There’s no doubt that he’s a charismatic presence, however, and a lot of that stems from the performance of Álvaro Morte.

This Spanish actor has earned quite a lot of praise for his portrayal of the character of Sergio Marquina (known as the Professor) a criminal mastermind in the Spanish series Money Heist.

3 Alexandre Willaume: The Last Kingdom (2015-)

Throughout its several seasons, The Last Kingdom has shown itself to be one of the best period dramas on Netflix, focusing as it does on a particularly brutal period of English history (the conquest of the island by the Vikings). It features many different characters, one of whom is Kjartan, one of the antagonists. In that role, he was noted for his cruelty and his brutal intensity, the latter of which he also displays as the character Thom Merrillin, a gleeman who is definitely more than he seems.

2 Kate Fleetwood: Harlots (2017-2019)

Harlots is another exemplary period drama, and one that takes a look at those who occupy one of the lowest rungs of the social ladder. Kate Fleetwood appears in the series as a sex worker named Nancy Birch, a woman who specializes in domination and bondage. This seems appropriate, given that she appears as the character Liandrin in The Wheel of Time, a woman who has many hard edges and believes strongly in the ideology of the Red Ajah, which preaches that all men who can channel must be gentled (and, if possible, destroyed altogether).

1 Madeleine Madden: Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)

Throughout her time on the show, Egwene has also shown herself to be a formidable young woman, and the show hints that she may be the Dragon Reborn herself. She has an indomitable spirit that allows her to survive anything, and for anyone who has seen her in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, that’s no surprise. Though Dora, as one of the most beloved children’s characters, is the center of the movie, Madden makes a surprisingly strong presence as Dora’s friend.
