The White Princess Season One Episodes Ranked According To IMDb

The 2017 STARZ show The White Princess is the second historical drama miniseries in the studio’s Wars of Roses trilogy and is based on the historical fiction novel that was written by Philippa Gregory. Following Elizabeth of York (played by Jodie Comer), this single-season series covers her marriage to Henry Tudor and her subsequent rise in power. After being crowned Queen, Elizabeth of York’s political and familial trials have only just begun.

While some episodes leave audiences on the edge of their couches, there are others that are rather lackluster and dull by comparison. That said, with the lowest ranking episode a 7.8 according to IMDb, the miniseries was pretty well received. Made up of only eight episodes, here is the historical fiction show’s episodic ranking according to IMDb.

8 Episode One: In Bed With The Enemy (7.8)

The White Princess Season One Episodes Ranked According To IMDb

The lowest episode in the rankings is the pilot episode, “In Bed with the Enemy.” This episode takes place after Henry Tudor wins the Battle of Bosworth and is set to be King of England.

This does not bode well for Elizabeth or York’s feelings, as Henry Tudor shifts from her enemy to her betrothed. While the episode is a strong start that is most well-received, audiences that continue to watch the miniseries should not be discouraged, because each episode gets better and better.

7 Episode Seven: Two Kings (7.8)

The nature of monarchies is that there can only be one reigning king in each nation, and this conflict ruminates throughout the episode. Tension peak between Perkin Warbeck and Henry Tudor, as Warbeck refuses to disown his claim to the crown, even though Henry Tudor sit atop the English throne.

This weighs heavily on the King as paranoia surrounding the security of the reign begins to fester within him. This paranoia is actually historically documented and serves a key motivator for King Henry Tudor VII

6 Episode Two: Heart and Mind (7.9)

After battling for the English throne, King Henry Tudor VII begins his tour of the nation to establish a powerful presence over his new subjects. However, not every subject is particularly pleased with the political unfolding. Due to the nature of his ascension to the throne and the Wars of Roses, English subjects are pretty divided with their allegiances.

Meanwhile, after Lizzie (Elizabeth of York) recognizes her pregnancy, which is thought to predate her betrothal, her allegiances are conflicted and her loyalty to the throne is tested.

5 Episode Six: English Blood On English Soil (7.9)

Arranged marriages are a way of life for this era’s monarchies. It was pretty common for royal families to arrange marriage alliances with other countries to help solidify trade routes, military power, and heirs to the families’ respective thrones. This is similar to what happens in episode six, “English Blood On English Soil.”

Elizabeth of York and her husband, King Henry VII, travel to Spain to secure a marriage for their son, Prince Arthur. This episode ignites the spark that the miniseries The Spanish Princess follows.

4 Episode Three: Burgundy (7.9)

Known for her manipulative and conspiring ways, Elizabeth of York’s mother, Elizabeth Woodville, is exiled, while Jasper Tudor, of Henry’s own family, works to secure an alliance that may not bode well for the current king.

3 Episode Four: The Pretender (8.0)

This episode shows how a king’s reign is never truly secure. While Henry Tudor may sit atop the English throne, political dangers lurk everywhere. While people plot in the palace to overthrow the Tudor reign, Henry finds himself on a battlefield once more.

This does not serve the King’s mental state very well, as re flags alert the audience that the character is beginning to succumb to his paranoia.

2 Episode Five: Traitors (8.0)

The White Princess Season One Episodes Ranked According To IMDb

This aptly titled episode seeps with the king’s paranoia, familial house rivalries, and traitors to Henry Tudor’s crown. When Elizabeth of York’s mother is exiled, the queen must walk a fine line between familial York ties and her Tudor marriage.

This is a precarious situation for the young Queen. Outside of Lizzie’s family, another character threatens Henry’s crown, which puts many characters in peril.

1 Episode Eight: Old Curses (8.2)

The final episode, “Old Curses” is the highest-ranking episode in the miniseries and leaves audiences wondering what the subsequent miniseries, The Spanish Princess, will discuss in the generation following Henry Tudor and Elizabeth of York.

This episode nods to the idea of consequences. While Henry battles his political foe, Lizzie is burdened with the weight of curses thought to be brought forth by Henry’s conquering of the English throne many years before.
