As fans wait for The Witcher season two, we look back at all the best Jaskier and Geralt moments of the first season.

As filming on the second season of The Witcher goes on and off and on again due to pandemic conditions, fans of the show have taken to rewatching the first season to enjoy their favorite characters. All of the characters in The Witcher shine, and viewers have many different potential options to choose from when selecting their favorites.
However, one character often stands out: Jaskier, a bard and Geralt of Rivia’s best friend. When the two of them travel together, it’s clear that Geralt is not just a lone wolf — despite being the White Wolf. It’s clear that Jaskier and Geralt are much more to each other.
10 Geralt Never Makes Jaskier Leave
Despite the fact that Geralt points out everything that makes Jaskier a potentially hazardous or irritating (though possibly inhuman) companion, Jaskier chooses not to leave the Witcher’s side. Though, at first, Geralt does try to scare Jaskier off, lest he be one more human hurt on the Path of a Witcher, Jaskier is not so easily frightened. He sticks to Geralt’s side, and Geralt never makes him leave, even as they start spending years, then decades, as friends.
9 Jaskier Can Help Geralt In A Fight
The longer Jaskier spends with Geralt as his friend, the clearer it becomes that he’s able to hold his own in a fight. He’s able to make it through the altercation with the Sylvan when he and Geralt first meet. He is also certainly capable of holding his own, being that he’s confident enough to just walk right up to Geralt in the tavern in Posada where he first meets him. Though, in the end, Geralt is more the protector, as Jaskier asks him to defend him as needed, and Geralt accepts.
8 Geralt and Jaskier Make Good Traveling Companions
The difficulty of being a Witcher is that, if there aren’t enough monsters to slay, there isn’t enough work to be done. Geralt often finds himself having a hard time making money, which is where Jaskier comes in — sort of.
Being a bard, Jaskier can make money playing music all over the Continent, which is helpful when the two of them need a few extra coins but can’t find a contract for Geralt to take on. Even when he’s not making money, at least Jaskier’s getting them some food.
7 Jaskier Is Always Loyal To Geralt
Even after they’ve only just met, Jaskier is instantly loyal to Geralt. Where other people fear Geralt — be it that they fear him specifically, or just Witchers in general — Jaskier is captivated by him, as well as intrigued enough to approach him in Posada. Despite encountering innumerable monsters — both beast and human — Jaskier stays loyal to Geralt, never faltering from his side.
6 Geralt Can Trust Jaskier With Roach
One of Geralt’s most prized possessions is his horse, Roach, even if the character himself would hesitate to say he owns her. Roach is actually a succession of horses — Geralt names every horse he gets, Roach — but Geralt loves each one of them all the same. That being said, it speaks volumes that Geralt is willing to trust Jaskier with Roach. He even trusts Jaskier enough to ride on Roach, though that seems to be on a special case-by-case basis. The fact that Geralt can trust Jaskier with something so valuable to him proves their deep bond.
5 Almost All of Jaskier’s Songs Are About Geralt
In the canon of the Witcher games, Jaskier (also known as Dandelion) has a lot of songs about many characters, especially Geralt and Ciri. In the show, this is starting to become true, as well: Jaskier starts getting more and more famous for his song “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher,” a song that not only serves to redeem Geralt’s character, but also to help him survive in a world that would rather not pay him for his work.
Beyond this, Jaskier also writes and performs a song in the show called “Her Sweet Kiss,” which plays in the credits of episode 6, Rare Species. This song is widely agreed to be about Geralt, Yennefer, and Jaskier himself. Further, Jaskier says he’ll write further odes to Geralt when he believes he’s died — and is delighted that won’t be necessary upon finding out Geralt is alive.
4 Jaskier Changes People’s Minds About Geralt
By writing songs like “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher,” Jaskier is not only attempting to advertise Geralt’s services as a Witcher and make sure he gets paid properly — though he is certainly doing that, and enforcing it as necessary. He also writes and performs songs about Geralt to change people’s minds about him. Where others see a frightening mutant, Jaskier sees a hero and adventurer who has saved countless lives across the Continent. His songs help people to see the amazing person Geralt truly is.
3 Geralt and Jaskier Balance Each Other Out
Though Geralt says he doesn’t need anyone — and that he doesn’t want to be needed by anyone, despite that being his job — this is far from true. Jaskier calls him out on this in episode 4, “Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials.”
In the reverse, Jaskier believes himself to be a lighthearted storyteller and nothing more, and Geralt knows this to be untrue, as well. In spite of the fact that they both insist they don’t need each other, they do, and they make that clear to each other through both words and actions, like in the bathtub scene pictured above.
2 Jaskier And Geralt Are Always There For Each Other
When Jaskier needs help, Geralt is always willing to assist him, even if it’s something that he would rather not do — such as the banquet Jaskier asks him to attend in episode 4 of season 1. Despite not wanting to go, Geralt attends the ball and even dresses up in clothing of Jaskier’s choosing in order to assist him. Vice versa, when Geralt goes on his dragon hunt, Jaskier stays at his side, even when things get perilous and terrifying. No matter the circumstances, Jaskier and Geralt have always been, and will always be, there for each other.
1 Geralt Often Lends Jaskier A Helping Hand
While it’s likely that a Witcher would need far more help than a bard, Geralt often lends Jaskier a helping hand when his friend needs it. After the djinn Geralt is trying to trap attacks Jaskier, silencing him and nearly killing him after Geralt makes a poorly-worded wish, Geralt is willing to do and give anything in order to save Jaskier’s life. Though Geralt ends up sending away both Jaskier and Yennefer by the end of episode 6, hopefully season 2 will show Geralt making amends with Jaskier so the two of them can come together again.
