Now that audiences are mostly finished with Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher, fans can look forward to Season 3, which, according to a new report, is set to begin filming very soon.

Redanian Intelligence recently reported that pre-production for Season 3 of The Witcher will begin in the next few weeks, with filming scheduled to commence some time in March. In addition, filming will take place at a new studio though will still be based in the United Kingdom, where the rest of the series was shot. Production will be moved from Arborfield Studios in Berkshire to Longcross Studios in Surrey.

Reports from late 2021 revealed production for The Witcher Season 3, under the title “Mysterious Monsters,” was scheduled for the first quarter of 2021, though a more exact window was not provided. Confirmation of the third season only came in July, when showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich announced it, alongside several other Witcher projects, at Netflix’s TUDUM event. Since then, she has teased a number of details concerning the upcoming events of the show.

Where Season 2 largely adapted the events of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Blood of Elves, Season 3 will be based on the next novel in the saga, Time of Contempt, which sees Ciri begin her training in magic under the guidance of Yennefer of Vengerberg. The novel also features major events that reshape the Continent and the place of the magic users that reside on it.

Hissrich previously stated that audiences can expect more violence and monsters in The Witcher Season 3. Speaking at Lucca Comics & Games event, she said, “It’s a really fun season and it follows a particular book really closely. It has a lot of action, some death.” She later hinted at the scale of the upcoming season, suggesting it will be the culmination of everything Netflix’s The Witcher has offered so far, teasing, “I feel like seasons 1 and 2 have been laying the playing field for everything huge that’s about to happen.”

In addition to the events and characters of Time of Contempt, Hissrich revealed that there is a major storyline from Blood of Elves that Season 3 will include, though she did not specify which storyline it is, who it involves, or whether it will connect with any of the other, more original storylines Netflix’s Witcher universe has in store.

Beyond The Witcher Season 3, Netflix is also developing a number of spinoffs, including a second anime project, a family-friendly project and the upcoming prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. The first official trailer for Blood Origin premiered as a post-credits scene attached to the Season 2 finale, showcasing its elven characters and the ancient Continent they will be fighting for.

The Witcher Season 2 is available for streaming on Netflix.
