The Big Three fully returns on next week’s This Is Us. NBC’s hit family drama just premiered its fourth season with an extended episode, but while it featured Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) in the aftermath of their shotgun Los Angeles road trip in the ’70s, the series devoted a chunk of its airtime introducing a string of new characters. This led to very minimal appearances by Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown). Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait that long to reunite with the Pearson siblings as The Big Three is front and center in the show’s next outing.

Following a cliffhanging season 3 finale that took fans far into the future, This Is Us is expanding its world with the addition of new key players. Asante Blackk, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Omar Epps, Bahara Golestani, Jennifer Morrison, Timothy Omundson, M. Night Shyamalan, Julian Silva, Auden Thornton, Nick Wechsler, and Tim Matheson are all joining the critically-acclaimed NBC series. Considering the number of new characters, fan-favorite Big Three wasn’t able to do much in the season 4 premiere, but they’ll be back in full force for episode 2, which is titled “The Pool: Part Two”.

NBC (via TV Promos) released the trailer for next week’s This Is Us and much of its focus is back on the Pearson family, particularly the three kids. In the 30-second clip, Kate addresses Jack Jr.’s (Blake Stadnik) blindness with optimism, Randall settles in with his new life as a politician, and Kevin appears to be working on a brand new Hollywood project. Other takeaways from the video is the reveal of buff Toby and of course, as the title suggests, a trip down memory lane to another pool visit for the Pearsons. Watch the full trailer below:

While This Is Us season 4 episode 1 focused on the new characters, it doesn’t seem like episode 2 will have to do anything significant with them. That’s quite an interesting turn, considering that the premiere ended on a mini cliffhanger after Nicky’s (Griffin Dunne) violent encounter with newcomer Cassie (Morrison). Unlike the some of the other fresh faces, fans are still unsure how she links to the Pearsons, and since she’s tipped to play a major role this season, everyone’s naturally curious how she’s going to fit into the narrative. With Dunner now a series regular, chances are that Cassie’s story will significantly connect to whatever lies ahead for Jack’s younger brother.

As the world of This Is Us expands with new characters, the reveal that the show’s next episode will shift its focus back to its main players is re-assuring for fans. Admittedly, not everyone is thrilled that much of the season 4 premiere was devoted on new faces and the episode had very little to do with the characters they’re already invested in. It’s curious how this bigger cast will change the way the show does its storytelling. For the most part, they’ve done a great job giving each member of the Pearson family ample screen time to progress their characters. But all that can change with new players coming in.
