Thor vs Deathstroke Could DCs Master Assassin Actually Kill a God

The God of Thunder and current ruler of Asgard, Thor, has proven his superiority over many cosmic and otherwise powerful characters within the Marvel Universe while Deathstroke has shown his expertise in assassinating whatever target he focuses on. If Deathstroke set his sights on Thor, could the master assassin actually kill the god?

Thor was first introduced to fans with an already established set of unimaginable power and has somehow surpassed that power since his first in-comic adventure. Deathstroke was introduced as a master assassin already, having been trained by the League of Assassins, the same organization with which Batman trained. Where Slade has seen some upgrades is not necessarily with his skillset, but the tech he uses to kill his targets. With his latest technological upgrade, can Deathstroke kill Thor?

In Wonder Woman #768 by Mariko Tamaki and Rafa Sandoval, Deathstroke is arguably at his most powerful with the help of god-killing blades he is using in his attempt to kill Wonder Woman. While in the end Slade is unsuccessful, he only misses his target because of the addition of another more powerful entity standing between him and Wonder Woman, with the Justice League member coming very close to having her life ended by Deathstroke. Deathstroke proved in the issue that he has the skills to take on a god-level hero with the weapons he needs to finish the job.

While Deathstroke fought valiantly against Wonder Woman and even nearly killed her, Thor has successfully killed beings of power beyond Slade’s comprehension. In Thor #6 by Donny Cates and Nic Klein, Thor harnesses his godly powers into a god-blast and uses the unparalleled cosmic energy to kill Galactus, a being that has existed since before the Marvel Universe and one that has defeated interdimensional beings with his power-cosmic. Beyond Thor’s explosive show of power in killing Galactus, the god has over a thousand years of battle experience, vanquishing nearly every foe that has ever crossed his path.

All-in-all in a one-on-one battle between Deathstroke with god-killing blades and Thor with Elder of the Universe-killing power, Thor would win. However, Deathstroke is a master tactician rivaled only by Batman himself, so if the assassin had some prep time, he could conceivably lure Thor into a trap and finish him off with the blades. Coming so close to killing Wonder Woman proves Deathstroke has a fighting chance and with that extra time to plan and lay traps ahead of the fight, Deathstroke could finish off Thor. Though in a fair, toe-to-toe matchup where the two characters wield their weapons of choice and duke it out, Thor’s power and fighting experience would be far too great for Deathstroke to handle and therefore Thor would take home the win.
