Titanic LEGO Set Is The Largest Ever Created & It’s Wildly Expensive

LEGO has unveiled their latest adult-build set, a recreation of the famed Titanic, which is their largest set to date. The RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg. At the time, the Titanic was the largest ship of its kind and the sinking of it was widely publicized, leading to numerous books, documentaries, collectibles, and movie and TV specials ever since.

In 1997, director James Cameron released the film Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, which created a fictional story set within the actual sinking of the famed ship. It went on to win Best Picture and Best Director at the 70th Annual Academy Awards. The film created a renewed interest in the ship and its disastrous history, and even Cameron himself (along with Titanic co-star Bill Paxton), re-explored the wreck in his documentary Ghosts of the Abyss. Today, numerous museums all over the world house artifacts from the sunken ship, including a prominent museum in Belfast, which is located precisely where the original ship was built.

Now, LEGO has joined in the Titanic hype with a massive new set meant for adult builders that features 9,090 pieces and measures over 53 inches (135 cm) long, making it the largest LEGO set to date. It’s also one of the most expensive, with a ticket price set at $629.99. The 1:200 scale model is intricately detailed and features working parts, including turning propellers that allow builders to see the piston engines turn inside and a raising anchor. The authentically detailed set divides into three sections and features the grand staircase, boiler room, smoking lounge, and more. The set also includes a nameplate and stand, to make for a prominent display of the build. Check out some images from the set below:

LEGO has made a strong push for more elaborate and intricate sets as adult interest has grown throughout the years for such products. Some of the more recent sets in this category include a recreation of the famed Colosseum in Rome, the Taj Mahal, and the White House. Some of the more notable pop-culture builds include a massive recreation of Star Wars’ Mos Eisley Cantina, a 7,541 piece Millennium Falcon set, and James Bond’s Astin Martin DB5. They also recently unveiled a large-scale version of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy Tumbler Batmobile.

For fans, both of LEGO and history, sets like Titanic can be a great way to explore the real events and details surrounding them, while creating something to showcase at home. While LEGO is billed as a “toy,” the level of detail, precision, and aesthetics put into these sets are incomparable to anything else on the market, making them a much sought-after product. While billed as an “Adults Welcome” set, these sets can also be enjoyed by older kids who are well-versed in the brick world, making them not only a fun experience to build, but potentially a family experience to share in. The set begins shipping on November 8th, 2021.
