Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 has a Harry Potter Easter egg that shows a group of NPCs discussing the books over their lunch break. The Last of Us Part 2 released over a year ago, but fans are still unearthing numerous hidden details that the developer has added into the game to make the world feel as real and immersive for players as possible.

The version of America seen in The Last of Us Part 2 is a beautiful but hostile one, with survival being one thing that everyone has in common. If not fighting off hordes of infected, the game’s many settlements are often at odds with each other. Be it the WLF in Seattle, the Seraphites from Haven, or the barbaric Rattlers from Santa Barbara, everyone has to be prepared to defend themselves at any given moment. Despite such tensions accounting for a large part of the everyday lives of those in The Last of Us Part 2’s world, the game begins with established settlements, including families, showing that some peace and normality has been found in the years following the outbreak of the original Last of Us.

YouTuber Speclizer, a content creator with a penchant for discovering easily-missed details in The Last of Us Part 2, has shared a YouTube video revealing that at least one member of the WLF enjoys reading to pass the time, specifically enjoying the Harry Potter book series. As shown in the video, when playing as Abby and exploring the SoundView Stadium, players will come across a group of NPCs having their lunch in the dining hall. If Abby lingers near them for a few moments, players will overhear the group speaking about what is unmistakably the Harry Potter books. While the books are never mentioned by name, the WLF NPCs are heard discussing how the characters within the books grow up over the series, and that the books themselves are not just for kids. One character then mentions the use of magic within the stories, and how after the fourth book in the series “… it gets really dark.” Another NPC doesn’t seem convinced by the premise of the books, but the former NPC seems keen to convince them otherwise.

Little details like this really add another level to The Last of Us Part 2’s gameplay. Despite being a fictional story, it has an undeniable realism to it thanks to the attention to detail created by Naughty Dog. Be it through the aforementioned reference to Harry Potter or the addition of Uncharted 2 in TLOU’s Ellie’s garage-turned-studio in Jackson, the developer has put a lot of effort into making this world one that players would truly believe and invest in.

Even though there is clearly plenty to discover throughout The Last of Us Part 2, many fans are now eager to find out more about the game’s multiplayer component. During The Last of Us Day celebrations in September, Naughty Dog revealed that it loves what the team is putting together with regards to the multiplayer game, and that more would be revealed in the future. Many are hopeful that some sort of announcement will be made at the upcoming The Game Awards 2021, where The Last of Us Part 2 actresses Laura Bailey and Ashley Johnson have both been revealed as presenters.
