Tom Holland Reacts To Venom 2 PostCredits Scene’s MCU Impact

Tom Holland reacts to Venom 2’s shocking post-credits scene and its impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Next month, Holland suits up for his third solo outing and his sixth overall MCU appearance as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He most recently appeared in another Sony-Marvel collaboration in Venom: Let There Be Carnage during the film’s post-credits sequence which uses footage from 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home in which J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) reveals Peter Parker’s secret identity.

Released in theaters last month, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a sequel to the 2018 box office hit that debuted Tom Hardy as the journalist Eddie Brock who unexpectedly becomes host to an alien symbiote known as Venom. Picking up a year after Eddie interviews Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) on death row, the serial killer eventually becomes host to the symbiote known as Carnage and breaks free from prison to reunite with his former lover, the super-powered Frances Barrison, aka Shriek (Naomie Harris). Though it received mixed reviews from critics, Venom 2 made for the biggest opening weekend of the pandemic, in part due to its momentous post-credits scene.

Now, during an interview with Total Film (via The Direct), Tom Holland addressed his surprise cameo during Let There Be Carnage’s post-credits scene for the first time. When asked if his appearance is an indication that Spider-Man and Venom will meet face-to-face sometime soon, Holland admitted he honestly doesn’t know, but had plenty of praise for the film’s lead star, Tom Hardy. I genuinely don’t know. It was really exciting to be a part of that film. Obviously, Tom Hardy is one of the greatest actors in the world. I’m happy to say that he’s a lovely bloke. But I haven’t really given it very much thought.

It has been heavily speculated that No Way Home will use the concept of the multiverse as a shortcut to introducing the Sinister Six. Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) have already been confirmed, while the marketing campaign has hinted towards the inclusion of the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), and Lizard (Rhys Ifans), equally a total of five supervillains.

On the heels of Let There Be Carnage’s post-credits scene which saw Eddie transported to the MCU, Venom could be the final member of the team. This speculation has only been fueled by Tom Hardy being spotted sporting a No Way Home hat. However, Venom hasn’t exactly been established as a villain in his two solo films, so that might make for an awkward showdown with Spider-Man. However, Holland’s enthusiasm regarding Venom 2’s post-credits scene is a good sign that an exciting crossover is on the horizon.
