Attack on Titan’s final season might very well be its most eventful season to date. From epic Titan clashes to unexpected plot twists to shocking exits, Season 4 has it all, and there is a lot for Attack on Titan fans to unpack as they prepare for the season’s third and final part.

Parts 1 and 2 of Attack on Titan’s Final Season are strong outings from top to bottom, but as with every franchise, there are some episodes that stand out more than others. It is these episodes that solidify exactly why Attack on Titan finds itself in the running for greatest anime of all time.

10 “The Other Side Of The Sea” Starts Season 4 With A Bang

At the end of Season 3, Eren and his comrades venture outside the walls to observe the ocean for the very first time. While the Corps celebrate the discovery, Eren acknowledges that on the other side of the ocean are Paradis’ enemies, brilliantly foreshadowing his eventual animosity towards the rest of the world.

Season 4’s first episode thrusts the viewer into the midst of an ensuing war between Marley and the Mid-East Alliance. After losing the Female and Colossus Titans four years prior, Marley’s enemies seize the opportunity to benefit from the nation’s depleted military forces. Marley is victorious and temporarily restores fears of its military might.

9 “Sole Salvation” Gives Viewers An Important Glimpse Into Zeke’s Past

Doubts over Zeke becoming a Warrior leave him feeling dejected until he meets Xaver – the Beast Titan holder. Xaver and Zeke become fast friends after the researcher praises the Warrior candidate’s pitching ability. Zeke learns that the Marleyan authorities are close to discovering the Restorationists’ plan and divulges what he knows to Xaver who tells him to turn his parents in.

Zeke obliges and learns a lot about the Titans from Xaver, including how to activate the Founding Titan’s power despite King Fritz’s renouncement of war. Years later, Zeke and Eren meet in Marley and Eren agrees to Zeke’s euthanasia plan. Back in the present, Levi saws off Zeke’s leg. In response, Zeke triggers the Thunder Spear in his torso and blows Levi away while his own body is severed in half.

8 “Assassin’s Bullet” Features One Of Attack on Titan’s Saddest Moments

Reiner prevents Eren from acquiring the Jaw Titan but sustains severe damage to his Armored Titan. Eren decides it’s time to retreat, and he and Mikasa leave the scene. Meanwhile, Gabi vows to kill Eren and chases the airship containing the Scouts.

Gabi kills Lobov and uses the wire from his gear to climb aboard the airship. Inside, she fires the rifle she picked up from a fallen soldier and strikes Sasha in the torso. Before long, the Scouts discover Sasha is dead. Eren chuckles while Jeans blames him for her death, concluding one of the series’ saddest episodes.

7 “The Dawn Of Humanity” Is As Revelatory As It Is Compelling

Following the Scouts’ first trip to Marley, Eren leaves the group and disappears. During another time, Eren discusses his plans with a pregnant Historia prior to querying Zeke regarding Mikasa’s headaches, prompting Zeke to tell Eren he believes she is devoted to him. Zeke asks Eren what he would say to her, and Eren tells him that he only has four years to live.

Back in the present, a fleet opens fire on the Wall Titans before noticing an even bigger Titan who they identify as Eren’s Attack Titan. Eren remembers his mother’s death as the Titans commence the destruction of Marley to end one of the season’s most revelatory episodes.

6 “Savagery” Features A Breathtaking Clash Between Levi And The Beast Titan

When Mikasa claims that Eren has been manipulated, he informs her of what he learned from Zeke in Marley, explaining that the Ackermans were designed to protect Eldia’s King. He asserts that the only reason she protected him in the cabin is due to accepting him as her host. He tells her he hates her, prompting a physical response from Armin.

Elsewhere, Levi prepares to kill Zeke. However, while his attention is diverted, Zeke screams and turns Levi’s comrades into Titans. Levi defeats them all, but not before displaying genuine horror. He eventually catches up to Zeke, who transforms into the Beast Titan, and severely wounds him with a barrage of Thunder Spears to end a breathtaking episode.

5 “Assault” Ends With Eren Acquiring The War Hammer Titan’s Power

The Beast Titan joins the battle between the Warriors and the Scouts while Armin’s Colossus Titan takes out Liberio’s military reinforcements. Galliard charges towards Eren and Levi uses the opportunity to topple the Beast Titan. Jean manages to fire a Thunder Spear into the Cart Titan’s eye, but Magath sends soldiers to ensure Pieck isn’t killed.

Galliard goes after the Scouts’ airship, but Mikasa slices the legs from his Titan. Eren further decimates the Jaw Titan before using it to crush the crystal containing Lara’s body. Eren consumes her blood and acquires the War Hammer’s powers. He attempts to eat the Jaw next, but Reiner transforms just in time to divert Eren’s attention to conclude an absolutely mind-blowing episode.

4 “Two Brothers” Is One Of The Season’s Most Eventful Episodes

As the conflict between Marley and Eldia rages on, Eren’s Attack Titan drags itself towards the fallen Beast Titan. The Jaw Titan attempts to stop him, but Eren brutally smashes its head. The Armored Titan attacks Eren as Zeke gathers himself and prepares to scream. Colt begs him not to, explaining that Falco ingested some of Zeke’s spinal fluid, but his pleas fall on deaf ears as Zeke screams anyway.

Zeke orders Falco to attack Reiner before Magath shoots the Beast Titan’s nape. Eren abandons his Attack Titan form and heads towards Zeke on foot, but Gabi fires the Anti-Titan sniper rifle and decapitates him. Zeke catches Eren’s head and is transported with Eren inside the Coordinate. Here, Zeke learns that he and Eren aren’t on the same page, which concludes one of the Season’s most eventful episodes.

3 “Judgment” Encompasses A Bloody Battle Between Eren And Reiner

Reiner parachutes from an airship and transforms to engage the Attack Titan in combat. Gabi informs Magath of Eren’s plans, driving him to instruct his soldiers to keep Eren and Zeke apart. The Jaw Titan joins the battle, leaving Eren outnumbered.

Eren takes fire from Magath while fending off the Armored and Jaw Titans, and all seems lost when Reiner runs him through with a spike. Meanwhile, the Scouts debate whether to help Eren. In the end, Armin decides that he wants to believe in Eren and trust that he doesn’t really want to go along with Zeke’s plan.

2 “The War Hammer Titan” Features An Epic Showdown Involving The Titans

Eren, in his Attack Titan form, launches an attack on Marley at the Liberio Festival and devours Willy Tybur. This spurs Willy’s sister, Lara, to transform into the War Hammer Titan and attack him. She has him beaten until Mikasa shows up and unleashes a barrage of Thunder Spears on the unsuspecting Titan.

Before long, Eren is forced to contend with both the War Hammer and Galliard’s Jaw Titan while the Scout Regiment arrives to take out Marley’s reinforcements. Eren learns that the War Hammer’s body is located underground and attempts to eat Lara’s body while Levi shows up. The conflict marks the beginning of an epic battle and one of the series’ most memorable episodes.

1 “From You 2,000 Years Ago” Is Perhaps Attack on Titan’s Most Important Episode To Date

After being pushed out of Grisha Yeager’s memories, Zeke calls on Ymir Fritz to render the Eldian people unable to reproduce. Ymir heads toward the Coordinate, but Eren frees himself from the chains securing him in place and runs after her. He witnesses her memories and learns the truth about the Founding Titan. It is revealed that Ymir had encountered a large spindly creature as a child and had been transformed into a massive Titan.

Ymir cultivates the wilds and builds roads using the Titan power, and as a “reward,” the King has Ymir bear his children. When Ymir is struck by a spear, Fritz has his daughters eat their mother’s body to retain the Titan powers. Back in the present, Eren uses this knowledge to convince Ymir he will end her slavey. Moments later, he is finally able to initiate the Rumbling. Eren has won and gained control of the Founding Titan in a fantastically well-written episode that is perhaps the series’ most important.
