The Proud Family was an animated Disney Channel show that ran from 2001 to 2005 and followed the life of middle schooler Penny Proud, her nuclear family, and her friends at school. The Proud Family stood apart from the other animated series of its day by centering on a black family and having a diverse cast of voice actors and characters.

10 Behind Family Lines (S2 E5) – 8.8

Trudy’s family is coming to stay for the babies’ christenings and she’s driven to meet their fancy standards. To her surprise, Oscar has invited his cousins, including Bobby Oscar’s singer brother, and they immediately begin to clash under the same roof.

Penny tries to play mediator to her two sides of feuding families, but the only thing that can bring them all together is Bebe and Cece’s christening.

9 Penny Potter (S2 E20) – 8.8

Sugar Mama’s sister brings her telekinesis act to town and seems to prove over and over again that she actually has powers. Everyone’s happy to see her except Sugar Mama, who has been jealous of their parents ignoring her and always paying attention to Spice.

Although everyone loves Spice, especially when she teaches Zoey telekinesis so she can feel special, she’s not all that she seems and is actually conning the entire town.

8 Teacher’s Pet (S1 E9) – 8.8

“Teacher’s Pet” starts out with Penny upset and blaming her teacher for her bad grade on her essay. Her Grandma, Sugar Mama, comes with her to reason with Ms. Dinkins as her parents interview at a prestigious preschool for her younger siblings.

The two stories run parallel to each other, as Oscar runs into an old middle schoolmate and Sugar Mama and Ms. Dinkins have their own feud from past lives. Penny attempts to make nice between all parties at a fundraiser night for the preschool.

7 Monkey Bidness (S2 E22) – 8.9

Mariah Carey, voicing herself, walks into Trudy’s veterinarian office needing help for her monkey, Francois, after he ate too many Proud Snacks.

Francois and Oscar’s monkey are switched at the vet. When Oscar realizes his monkey can now play piano, he tries to profit by having him play with Mariah Carey during a concert, but the real Francois switches places with him before going out on stage and everything goes back to normal.

6 Poetic Justice (S2 E4) – 8.9

Penny is successful reading her poetry at a spoken word contest and believes she’s going to win the entire competition, but when her friend Dijonay proves to be a better-spoken word artist, Penny is quickly jealous.

Penny’s mom, Trudy, tries to tell Penny that she’ll lose Dijonay as a friend if she can’t control her jealousy and be happy for her friend, but instead Penny tries to incite a feud. Dijonay chooses the higher ground.

5 The Camp, The Counselor, The Mole And The Rock (S2 E17) – 8.9

Penny and her friends in the church choir go on a camping trip as camp counselors. Worried that Penny will fraternize with boys, her father Oscar bribes reoccurring character Peabo with Proud Snacks to spy on her during the trip.

Peabo gives him terrible and suggestive intel when, in reality, Penny isn’t making much progress in getting her crush to like her.

4 Tween Town (S2 E10) – 8.9

Penny and her friends sneak out to the opening of a new teen club in town without any of their parents knowing. Penny’s parents figure out pretty quickly where they are and they all get in big trouble for lying. During Penny’s punishment of chores and no screens, she wishes all adults were gone and an imaginary Al Rooker makes her wish true.

3 The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (S2 E25) – 9.0

This episode sees the characters attempt to win a singing competition, spoofing American Idol and including Alicia Keys voicing herself, put on by the local rich and famous Wizard Kelly. LaCienega is accepted to move on along with Agatha Ordinario.

LaCienega thinks she’ll easily win the competition because of Agatha’s weird and quirky look that isn’t mainstream attractive like she is. Even the mean British stereotype judge, hilariously voiced by Tim Curry, tells her that she won’t win because she doesn’t have the look, but Penny sticks by Agatha’s side and supports her.

2 It Takes A Thief (S2 E18) – 9.0

Penny and her friends start working at the local mall and are accused of stealing an expensive watch when it goes missing. They’re fired, except for LaCienega, whose boyfriend got them the work in the first place.

They all try to figure out who stole the watch, accusing LaCienega’s boyfriend, to get their jobs back. Eventually, they find out who stole the watch and it’s who you would least expect.

1 Hooray For Iesha (S2 E6) – 9.1

When Penny’s favorite show, Iesha, is canceled and replaced with a police reality show, Penny advocates for the show to be put back on the air by beginning to boycott and protest. When the other kids quit, Penny decides to climb a billboard for the show and protest even further.

Due to her persistence, the show is put back on the air, but finds that all is not what it seems when they tour the set and meet the stars who are less than pleased to be back.
