In just a little over 10 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has managed to achieve so much, breaking a ton of impressive box office records. The MCU has also grown tremendously. In fact, it now boasts a roster of talent that can rival any major film studio (although it is owned by Disney).

To further prove its dominance, there are at least 10 films available on Netflix that feature MCU actors. A few actors known in the MCU have starred in rom-coms over the years. So, if you want to enjoy your favorite MCU actors proving their merit in a completely different genre of film, look no further.

10 Only You

This 1994 rom-com is headlined by MCU actors Robert Downey Jr. and Marissa Tomei. In the film, Tomei’s character was wildly convinced that she was supposed to end up with a guy named Damon Bradley, who Downey pretends to be.

Back then, Tomei and Downey were dating in real life. And although they have since broken up, the two have remained good friends. In fact, this led to Tomei’s casting in the MCU. “He recommended me for the role and we had a flirtatious little scene together in Captain America: Civil War,” the actress explained while speaking with The Guardian.

9 The Nanny Diaries

In the MCU, Chris Evan’s Captain America and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow developed a strong friendship, one that developed in Captain America: Winter Soldier. Off-screen, Johansson and Evans have known each other for years, working together in films like The Nanny Diaries, where Evans plays Johansson’s love interest.

This also helped them have good chemistry in recent MCU films. Scarlett told Entertainment Weekly, “It’s really a result of 10 years of knowing somebody and being able to have a kind of intimacy with them that I think you get from just spending a lot of time with somebody …”

8 He’s Just Not That Into You

This romantic ensemble comedy brings together some of the biggest Hollywood stars, including MCU actors Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper. Coincidentally, Johansson also plays a woman who decides to go out with Cooper until she realizes that he’s married to a woman played by Jennifer Connelly.

Although it didn’t fare well with critics, it’s full of fun quotes that fans can’t get enough of. Moreover, many of Cooper’s fans also think it’s one of his most iconic roles, along with his portrayal of Rocket in the MCU.

7 What’s Your Number?

Evans and Chris Pratt star in this 2011 film, opposite Pratt’s then-wife, Anna Farris. Coincidentally, they are also joined by Blythe Danner, who is the mother of MCU Star Gwyneth Paltrow.

For Evans, pursuing a comedic role gave him the chance to do something different from what he’s been doing in the MCU. “I love doing comedies and maybe I just felt like I hadn’t done one in a little while,” Evans revealed while speaking with Cine Movie. “You do comedies like this, you go home, smile and crack a joke. It feels like summer camp.”

This 2006 film is about an actor who realizes that he is still in love with his ex-fiancé after running into her three years later. The problem is that his ex, who is played by MCU star Zoe Saldana, is getting married in just 36 hours.

From the beginning, Dorian Missick, who plays the lead male character, had always wanted Saldana to play his love interest. While speaking with Black Film, he revealed, “I have been in love with her work ever since I first saw Drumline. Meanwhile, Missick also asked Saldana to star opposite him in the film Six Degrees.

5 13 Going On 30

Starring Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner, the film is one of the many It’s a Wonderful Life parody movies that have been made in the last several years. The film is also known for its many great outfits, including the rainbow party dress in the Thriller dance scene.

Unbeknownst to many, that scene was the reason Ruffalo nearly backed out of the film. “I literally read it and I’m like ‘I can’t do this movie,” Ruffalo told Black Film. “When she (Jennifer) dragged me out, she was literally dragging me out.”

4 Date Night

This 2010 film centers on the Fosters, a couple who decides to take someone else’s dinner reservation and get caught in a dangerous situation in the process. That couple is portrayed by Steve Carell and Tina Fey.

Mark Ruffalo and Kristen Wiig play the couple’s close friends who are about to split up. This affects the Fosters more than they care to admit because it leads them to question if their own relationship has stopped being interesting. The film also stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, and Taraji P. Henson.

3 Clueless

Clueless is one of the most celebrated rom-coms from the 90s, thanks to its storylines that were ahead of their time and quotes that every fan loves. In the film, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher is a high school girl who eventually falls for her dorky ex-stepbrother Josh, played by MCU’s Paul Rudd.

According to the film’s director, Amy Heckerling, she initially wrote the character as “someone who was cute but not hunky” and “smart but stuck up.” And when she met Rudd, she told M Live, “There was something about him …”

2 All About Steve

In this 2009 film, Sandra Bullock plays a crossword puzzle creator who falls for a cameraman after a blind date, played by Bradley Cooper. She becomes convinced that the two are soulmates. As a result, Bullock’s character Mary follows Cooper’s Steve around wherever he goes. As she does this, Mary starts to physically injure Steve.

While speaking with the Digital Journal, Bullock insisted that it was “by accident.” The two actors haven’t done another film together since, but fans hope to see them together in the near future.

1 They Came Together

In this 2014 film, Amy Poehler stars as the owner of a candy shop that corporate man, Paul Rudd, had been sent to shut down. The film is not exactly your typical rom-com because it is meant to poke fun at the genre. That’s why Rudd has a scene in the film where he plays basketball with his friends.

While speaking with NPR, the film’s director, David Wain, explained, “We feel like [in] every rom-com the guy always has this random group of best friends who he does some big sport with — usually it’s basketball …”
