Rumor has it that Transformers: The Last Knight, the upcoming fifth film in Michael Bay’s Hasbro toy-based, blockbuster Transformers franchise, will see Optimus Prime returning to Earth to find a magical artifact that will bring back his planet, Cybertron. Along for the ride are Transformers: Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg (as Cade Yeager), and Josh Duhamel, whose character, Lt. Colonel William Lennox, appeared in four previous Transformers films.

Recently, Academy Award-winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins also joined the cast, along with franchise newcomers Jerrod Carmichael and Isabela Moner, who will play the female lead. In addition to the humans, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee (of Team Autobots) and Megatron and Barricade (of Team Decepticons) are set to return.

As Bay and his team gear up for production later this month, Laura Haddock has just announced her official involvement with the film, taking to Twitter to express her excitement. The thirty year-old English actress is best known for starring in Da Vinci’s Demons (as Lucrezia Donati). She also had a brief stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing briefly in Captain America: The First Avenger, and later playing Meredith Quill, Star Lord’s mother, in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Despite Haddock’s playful claim that she was talking about Optimus Prime (who was very big in the ’80s in his own right), she’s obviously referencing Wahlberg’s former career as a model and rapper during the ’80s, and his later career as executive producer of the HBO series Entourage, in the early 2000s. The humor was not lost on Wahlberg, who responded playfully to Haddock’s announcement in a tweet of his own: “Optimus gets more love than Cade? Come on! Welcome to the #transformers family.”

As was the case with Hopkins’ casting announcement, there is no official word yet on who Haddock will be playing. Hopefully, however, as production gets underway in Cuba, we will begin to hear more official news and teasers from Bay and his team.

Transformers: The Last Knight opens in U.S. theaters on June 23, 2017, followed by the Bumblebee spinoff on June 8, 2018, and Transformers 6 on June 28, 2019.
