Twilight What Taylor Lautner Has Done Since Breaking Dawn Part 2

The Twilight Saga boosted the careers of its main cast, among those Taylor Lautner – and here’s what he has done since Breaking Dawn – Part 2 came out. In 2005, Stephenie Meyer shared her vision of vampires in the novel Twilight, the first entry in what would become a series of four books. The core of the story was the relationship between vampire Edward Cullen and mortal Bella Swan, who came across a lot of obstacles – from werewolves to a clan of vampires known as the Volturi.

The success and popularity of the Twilight books made way for its jump to the big screen between 2008 and 2012, with the final novel, Breaking Dawn, being split into two movies. The Twilight Saga allowed fans to put a face on the characters they love and also helped boost the careers of its main cast, who even though most weren’t newcomers, they became widely known after this. Taylor Lautner appeared in all movies of the saga as Jacob Black, a werewolf and Bella’s best friend, who also had a crush on her. Although Bella married Edward and built a family with him, Jacob didn’t end up alone, and he imprinted on Bella’s daughter, Renesmee.

Taylor Lautner wasn’t exactly a new face when he first appeared as Jacob Black in Twilight, but the saga opened many doors for him on both film and TV, and yet he hasn’t been part of big franchises and blockbusters since the saga came to an end. Following the release of Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Lautner had an uncredited minor role in the comedy Grown Ups 2 as Frat Boy Andy, and in 2015 he starred in the action film Tracers, which got very negative reviews. That same year, Lautner appeared in the Western action-comedy The Ridiculous 6, alongside Adam Sandler, Terry Crews, Jorge García, Rob Schneider, and Luke Wilson, and got even worse reviews than Tracers, getting a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. His most recent film project is the drama Run the Tide, released in 2016.

Taylor Lautner’s career hasn’t been limited to movies, and he has also been part of a couple of TV shows. In 2014, he joined the second season of the sitcom Cuckoo, taking Andy Samberg’s place as lead after it was announced he was not returning as the title Mr. Cuckoo. Lautner played his long-lost lovechild, Dale, for three seasons, but didn’t come back for the fifth and final one. His most recent TV project, and perhaps his most popular work since Twilight, came in 2016 when he was cast as Dr. Cassidy Cascade in Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens. Both his character’s arc and the series came to an end with season 2, and that’s the last Twilight fans have seen of him on TV. Lautner’s decision to stay away from franchises could be rooted in how he felt he was being “pigeonholed” for playing Jacob Black, even sharing at some point that he didn’t want to be known for his looks, as in many projects he was being asked to take his shirt off just for the sake of it.

Another reason could be that the movies he was a part of didn’t perform well, which can definitely be discouraging. Luckily, Taylor Lautner had better luck on TV and his work in Cuckoo and Scream Queens was better received than those of Tracers and The Ridiculous 6. Taylor Lautner doesn’t have any projects lined up for the near future, but that doesn’t mean he can’t make a comeback at some point.
