Many users were surprised to hear when Twitch suspends one of its largest content creators, xQc. Twitch is one of the largest streaming platforms on the Internet, hosting a wide variety of content creators and video games. However, content creators lately have been displeased regarding DMCA takedowns, with many popular streamers receiving unfair bans and suspensions. However, xQc would not be one of them.

Twitch Rivals is a popular event hosted by Twitch where content creators come together to compete in tournaments. These competitions are set for a variety of games like Among Us, Fall Guys, and League of Legends. Even though these tournaments are made for fun, there are still rules set in place to prevent streamers from cheating. These rules usually consist of basic things, like not using exploits or hacks. However, a tactic called “stream sniping” is when the player knows another streamer is in their game and watches their live stream on another screen to gather information on them.

Twitch Rivals officially announced xQc’s account being temporarily suspended, as well as being banned from future Twitch Rival competitions for 6 months. He would also forfeit his prize money from the event, but as an incredibly large streamer, it is likely he isn’t playing for the money anyway. During an event called GlitchCon, xQc was caught stream sniping in a game of Fall Guys. Fall Guys has seen a rise in popularity once again, after being outshined by Among Us. Stream sniping could give a player the advantage to purposefully locate and sabotage other streamers in the event, especially when players in Fall Guys have the ability to grab and hold down other players. While fans are outraged at xQc’s ban, he responds respectfully and believes his ban was justified.

Stop defending my everywhere for no reason. We got into the final game with @DrLupo and @shroud ‘s team. We shouldn’t of done it and it was wrong. I’m sorry for my actions. I thought it would be funny. It did not change the outcome but it was still malicious. Sorry.

xQc tweeted out saying he originally stream sniped because he had thought it would be comical. However, he also states this is not a valid reason to defend his actions, and that intentionally cheating during the event was malicious. xQc makes a formal apology for his actions and asks his fans to stop defending him for what he has done.

Twitch Rivals has a job to enforce the rules when necessary, and this is certainly one of them. Regardless of xQc’s popularity and status, it would be a bad image for both sides to allow a streamer to stream snipe during GlitchCon. xQc handles the situation respectfully and admits that the punishments applied were justified. While fans may have a right to be frustrated that their favorite content creator won’t be able to stream temporarily, complaining at Twitch Rivals is not right, especially when xQc acknowledges his mistakes.
